Re: Doxa now at Topper.
Not to keep bumping a thread that some random person necro-bumped, but it is interesting that Topper is adding an extra year of warranty to the watch. I know Doxa is stingy with selling parts, so my guess is a warranty repair sent to Topper in year 3 would likely have to be sent back to Doxa for pai...

Re: Fifty Fathoms now in 42mm
I’ve always thought this watch looked best on a strap, so the lack of a bracelet isn’t a big deal to me.
This price means owning one is just one winning lottery ticket away for me.

Re: Any fisherman out there?
Striper fisherman here. I’ve been fishing off the coast of Cape Cod MA and southern New Hampshire pretty much all my life. I really enjoy having the ability to take out my 82 year old dad and 15 year old son. It’s nice to see my dad pass down the lessons he taught me years ago. What is interesting i...

Nearly perfect.
I just don’t understand why the 24 hour bezel and the 24 hour scale on the chapter ring. I would much rather have the chapter ring 24 hour scale and a divers timing bezel.

Re: Every hero needs an ally
Rolex could teach a master class in marketing. I say this with true respect. They have mixed the ability to create a high quality product with superb marketing and product placement to maximize the success of their business. Many companies focus on only one half of the equation. Rolex is one of the ...

You mean this Certina? IMG_7829.jpeg If yes, the I agree. It is a cracker and wears great on an ISOfrane. Welcome back to the mad house! Good to see/read your back haha. Mine Certina is weeks away, but looking forward to it. I agree, from a re-issue piece, this is one I am excited to see i...

Re: Any thoughts on Apple’s Vision Pro?
I’ve seen some interesting use cases for mixed reality headsets (VR + real world), but they were all industrial or task-based in nature. For example, using these types of googles to help someone accomplish a complex task. I’m not really seeing the home-use benefit of these right now, and especially ...

Re: A New MKII/Tornek-Rayville Offering
I like my Stingray Keroman with the acrylic bezel and domed sapphire crystal. It has a vintage feel, without the worry of an actual vintage watch.
That said, it scratched my Mk II itch. For the same $1K price point, I think my new Certina DS PH1000 is a better value. As always YMMV.

Re: Which Seiko should I keep in my collection
I agree with keeping the SKX007. You could a nice bracelet from Uncle Seiko and have a classy looking dive watch. Alternatively, SKX007 prices have been going crazy, so you could potentially make the most by selling the SKX. If you need to raise funds, the SKX is probably the best one to put on the ...

Re: Interesting read
I agree HRV’s are a gimmick to 99% of watch owners, but at least it is a gimmick with some theoretical potential use as opposed to the Omega rocket. I don’t mind having an HRV on an established watch brand’s design (such as Doxa or Certina). I am a bit hesitant when I see an HRV on a low cost micro ...

Re: Arnold busted for not paying watch taxes
FWIW, when researching a bit more about what happened to Arnold, I found this old article from Fratello: https://www.fratellowatches.com/beware- ... ches/#gref
Lesson learned for me: when traveling internationally, bring only 1 watch. I'll save my watch roll for local GTG's.

Re: Arnold busted for not paying watch taxes
This is a situation I really don’t understand. As I read the article, it sounds like Arnold brought a watch he already owned to Germany (where he would eventually donate the watch to an Austrian charity auction). I’m trying to understand the tax implications to Germany on this. If I (a US citizen) w...

Re: Price Check?
I got my 300T brand new from Joma for $1,414.
I figure used, but relatively new and mint condition, around that price is reasonable (otherwise just buy from Joma at their next sale).
On edit, I just noticed this was the LE. That will probably command a premium.

Re: School Me on Joma Shop
Joma is hit or miss. They sometimes sell shit not in stock, they kept my money for over 2 months to get me a watch that they said was in stock. Then another time they sent me a digital watch with a broken screen and told me I had to pay a restocking fee on it. Crazy. When we were servicing watches ...

Re: Congratulations, Todd! NJ the most Outbound State
Property tax is the most egregious form of taxation. You never truly own your home and your land if you're forced to pay tax on it in perpetuity. I was thinking about this earlier and I think there is a reason property taxes make sense in NH, but maybe less so in other states. In NH, we have a ton ...

Property tax is the most egregious form of taxation. You never truly own your home and your land if you're forced to pay tax on it in perpetuity. Estate tax is also pretty diabolical. You paid tax on income, capital gains, etc. and when you leave everything you earned to your children when you pass...

Re: Congratulations, Todd! NJ the most Outbound State
The thing is, I’m actually not anti-tax. I feel that taxes are necessary to fund the services required to live in a community. I guess I don’t care if it is property tax or income tax, but I would prefer to select only one (unlike my experiences in other New England states). While NH has a lower tax...

Re: School Me on Joma Shop
Is the UN movement truly in-house, or is it a slightly modified ETA movement serviceable by a competent independent watchmaker? I bought my Doxa from Joma with no issues, but it is running a standard Sellita movement. My rule for Joma is the discount must exceed the anticipated cost of a major move...

Re: Congratulations, Todd! NJ the most Outbound State
I live on the Seacoast, so our property taxes are relatively low when compared to other NH towns. I guess the balance is our property values are pretty high. I know property taxes are a controversial topic in NH, but I think we are better off in NH than many other places. Then again, my perspective...
