That’s not even close to a tapisserie dial
At a glance, from normal viewing distances, that blue would look very similar to the APRO dial. Zenith even chose four pointed stars (despite five points being used in their logo) to further the "textured square" impression of the dial.

Re: Zenith Defy Skyline

I get what you are saying Jacob, but Zenith has a pretty rich history of integrated bracelet avant garde watches that predate both of the models you referenced, although the popularity and unobtainability of those no doubt inspired this. For sure. Zenith is a great brand with tons of heritage. But ...

Re: Zenith Defy Skyline

Seems like a knock off APRO, but with nice Rolex Oysterquartz getting super expensive this is a welcome addition to the market. And look at that perfectly placed/executed date. It looks great.

Small movement in big case isn't a great basis for this design.

Re: New Seiko Thread

The design of the GS chronograph is so damn ugly. They look like a Picasso picture of a real watch. The white/blue ceramic GMT is cool, but it was a weird choice to skip the border on the date window -- looks very unfinished on a GS.

Re: Zenth’s Defy Revival A3642

The more I look at it, the less I like it. Ignoring the size, the ratio of case to dial is all wrong. Given the small size, the dial is probably the size of a dime.

I like small watches, but this is weirdly small in a not nice way. Such an easy target for the BODs, but I’ll take the high road this time https://media2.giphy.com/media/DBbPjLMsQPruMkDcrd/giphy.gif Most of the BOD like big... watches. Sometimes more than one... watch... at a time. :gayumbrella:

That looks nice Tom, and I'm sure it's incredibly well finished. Even so, so many of these GS releases are such a minor tweak on a common theme. They probably have 200 references over the last couple years that are effectively identical to the above.

I was ready to like these, because TAG has had some good LE models recently. I hate all of them for one reason or another. The GMT looks like a really nice micro brand and the TAG branding was a shitter.

Re: Omega’s Speedmaster Calibre 321 Canopus Gold

Nostalgia is a powerful drug. Even the SS 321 speedy is priced at $14,000. Rolex isn't the paragon of reasonable prices, but their white gold Daytona has an MSRP of $45,000, and it has an outstanding modern movement. I’d pick the daytona if I were spending my own money, but I think this Speedmaster...

Re: Omega’s Speedmaster Calibre 321 Canopus Gold

I hadn’t seen that before and I love the looks. However, the movement decoration is pretty poor for a watch that costs CHF 75,000. They would have done better not showing it.

The one thing that I may add is a DJ, but here in HK the Rolex scarcity is to a whole new level (ladies DJ with pearl dial and diamond indexes are the only things available, yet they keep opening new shops  ) so there’s no risk unless someone posts one here - which also seems unlikely as I d...

I have to laugh when you guys fawn over Rolex... by doing things 'in-house' they've obviously cut their costs to a minimum, This is ridiculous. Sure, they cut out double marginalization but you can't seriously think that it's more cost effective to operate a foundry than it is to outsource that fun...

Re: State of the Market

I 100% agree with Jacob. You really have to do the inflation math before comparing prices, and then look at how they are made. I personally prefer 100x the styling of most five digits VS today’s Rolex offerings, but in terms of build quality my wife’s 114200 is way better compared to my 14060m, 165...

Re: State of the Market

None of these modern Rolex watches seem to have actual, intrinsic value anywhere near MSRP. You can say that about all modern luxury watches, but it’s a hard pill to swallow when you consider what the MSRPs were just a few years ago. The fact that a Sub is now $10K just boggles my mind. Of course i...
