Watch collecting is weird

Post by HalifaxNS » Fri Mar 28, 2025 1:09 pm

I just find it interesting and odd.
I can look at 100 watches and probably only like 2, finding little flaws and imperfections in most.
Not only do I not like the vast majority of watches I see, I actually find them repulsive.
BUT when I see something I like it’s pure magic, a completely beautiful piece of perfection to be adored and cherished.
It’s so subjective and unique to the collector, such a personal choice, there really is no right and wrong.
One more reason why we should not judge others on their choices, I tend do I have to stop myself from thinking negatively on somebody’s choice. Especially considering that there’s such a little difference between what I find amazing and repulsive.
Plus I haven’t even addressed the fact that these things aren’t exactly practical, they’re massively expensive to purchase and service, need to be babied (to a certain extent), and frankly nobody else really gives a shit but us.
As odd as this is, we love them. Just weird, very very weird.

Kind of like the anti-pokemon? Gotta catch that one that captivates your attention.

I get it. After 30 years of collecting, I know what I like in a watch and the things that drive me nuts.
