The displays are very legible in all light conditions from my experience. Whether looking at the LCD's in direct sunlight or some low-light condition, the AR coating of the crystal combined with the LCD being used usually provides an easy to read display.
Depressing the crown activates the LCDs' backlights, which allows you to read them in the dark (which were activated on the picture from my post). They're marketed as “NVG-compatible” which means that you can use them safely with your night vision goggles (just in case you happen to have those on).
I usually use the B1 in the "Black-Out" mode which does not show any data in the displays, and apparently helps to prolong battery life.
I've included a couple of shots here to show the Black-Out and Indirect Sunlight views of the displays.
