The Magrette isn't even here yet and I'm thinking Harpoon???

Post by Mechanical Movement » Wed Oct 16, 2013 6:05 pm

I'm so weak. An ETA movement Harpoon came up on WUS. Never owned one but I really like the look with the ceramic bezel. Thoughts? I would be committing the $ I have marked for the Helson Turtle or SM600 for this. (sellers pic)

Doesn't bother me at all. That's why I'm asking. The different bezels don't factor in for me. The engineer style bracelet is not really for me, but I'd put it on a different strap anyway. It seems to be a well constructed micro but I have never owned anything from Boschett. Mentioning me and invicta in the same paragraph does sting like a bitch though.

It's a fantastic watch, IF you like the style.
Boschett makes a great watch.
Don't know what the FK the invicta reference is about.

I've heard Kevin puts out a quality product. I've really enjoyed my SAS and it has piqued my interest in other boutique/micro divers.

Keith is solid. Not a lot of boutique love around here though. Most of us went through the Boutique diver phase and it is fun for awhile. A few of them (like SAS) really stand out. Many are lacking refinement in the fine details.

I like both big name brand watch brands as well as some micros. The micros offer a wide choice of variety and good quality at an affordable price. The Harpoon never did it for me. I liked the original prototype when Keith originally showed photos of it. But then he changed the bezel and gave it the raised teeth. I never liked it after that. It always reminded me of a pie crust.

I've read that people that own the Harpoon are very happy with them.

Pat: WTF is with the Invicta reference. Not even close. In my early days I owned Invicta's and they are truely crap. (didn't you own a purple dialed Graham at one point).

Mechanical, if you like the looks of the Harpoon, go for it. (On a side note, I have a Turtle and absolutely love it. Might want to keep waiting for a Turtle).

These come up pretty often and sell pretty quickly as far as I have seen. If you like it you should go ahead and try it, once done with it you can either keep it or flip it, I am pretty sure it will go fast. It is well thought of generally.

I'm with TC on this one . . . that matte grey bezel intrigues me. Never seen that before, I didn't think Keith offered custom bezels. I wonder how that got in in there.

By all accounts Boschett turns out some fantastic quality pieces, and there are a couple of nicely detailed reviews out there, including TC's.

I'm putting my pennies aside for one as well.

I think Pat was referring to the swapping bezels feature as being Invicta like. It is kind of a gimmick.

I'm pretty sure the quality is no where Invicta like. As the esteemed DWCer Pat said though, doesn't offer anything new or different from most of the dive watch brands out there. Everything I have seen, leads me to believe that it is a pretty solid product and if you don't mind a little me too cookie cutting, it's a pretty good deal.

Thank you for all the feedback. Totally helpful. I have never read anyone say a bad word about Keith. The bezel isn't as classic as I usually look for, but I already have a watch box full of that. The fact that it is a bit different is what caught my eye. I'm putting an offer in tonight. The Magrette showed up today along with the 3 new straps I ordered for it. Pics coming tonight. Loved the Graham shirt refernce BTW.
