Help me choose a new watch

Post by manitoujoe » Thu Sep 01, 2011 11:53 pm

Hey, gang.

So, now that I've got a job, I'm going to probably pick up a new watch. It sounds weird, but after over a year with the same watch, the one watch, I find myself kind of looking for something new and different than my DSR500. Not ever going to sell it, but I think a change up would be nice.

Looking for a watch with numbers on it. Preferably lighter, too. I threw in the PVD to give me another look than the SS of my DSR.

Any advice? I put the Marathon and the Bathys stuff up there because that's all I can think of off hand. If you have ideas, I'd love to hear them.

Thanks in advance.

I voted for my trusty GSAR. You could have an SAS like the one on the top of the screen for right around that price if it's new owner doesn't bond with it.

Haha. The G is a near given. You know how I keep going back to Bathys. WTF is wrong with me....

But the VSA is a solid idea. Hadn't thought of that.

This may be a TALL order, but if some GUY decides he doesn't like his SAS...well, that GUY should let me know. :)

Omega PO FTW.

But with Bathys dropping their prices, wow, hard to beat a Swiss made watch in that price range. And they tick the criteria you mentioned.

LOL, so subtle Mark.... I was about to deride you for not putting the SAS on there. There have been a couple of deals on WUS for them....generally in your price range.

This one had all the makings of a quick flip for me; too chunky, heavy, and "different" from my more standard "sub-like" tastes....but I have to say we have bonded nicely and although they take a hit on the used market, I seriously feel like I'm wearing a $1000+ watch and that I would lose hundreds in value by selling for the market price (even though that is what I paid!!) Did that make sense?

I usually don't make recommendations, but I REALLY think you would like this one Mark...very distinctive on the wrist. :bananastoner:

BTW, the rest of your choices are all "been there, done that ho hum" for both you and I....

It makes perfect sense. I wouldn't sell my SAS for what I paid for it because nothing else in that price range would compare. It's that good.

Yeah, I think my Bathys desire is price-driven. Dang it.

So, I'll be saving pennies and waiting for the bonus check...then prob a G and the SAS. LOL

I like the bathys 100f, btw you won't be able to get a quartz version until next year (unless you buy used).

I recently got ahold of one of these and checked it out personally. Really is a very cool watch in this price range. Very well done. :fro:

If you want something different and cool... you might find a used Tuna around $7 bones. One of the coolest watches I've picked up to date. :fro:

 I already got mine. I was just checking out the deal. Not bad I would say at $725 even though mine has a few extras. I'd try for this one at 7 if you want one, looks to be in good shape. Of course I haven't seen mine yet, it may be a hideous mess. Wife just texted me and said she missed my watch delivery again. Looks like I have to pick up another one at the post office, AGAIN!! I swear she does that on purpose. Pics to follow.

GSAR, Tuna, Tsunami, VSA, SAS, all good choices IMO.

My ranking Tsunami/Tuna/GSAR/VSA/SAS

SAS is last due to I've never owned one, but I dig it.
All others are from experience.

Good luck.
