New arrival......my first GMT

Post by snootydog » Fri Sep 09, 2011 7:02 pm

Yet again H.M Customs & Excise nabbed my incoming watch :banghead: but its out of jail now and on my wrist and i love it
I had been seriously looking at getting a vintage Accutron Astronaut but not only were they out of my price range,i had a feeling that i would worry about wearing an expensive 1960's watch to work, would it stand up to the rigours of modern life?
By pure chance i spotted this modern reissue for sale and its way more practical for me than a vintage model.
I was curious about the Day/Night bezel,i hadnt seen this on any vintage 'Astronaut' model but after some research i found that they did make a version with this type of bezel.
Good old Buzz Aldrin, who likes to plant his signature wherever he can,has signed these limited edition reissues on the half display back.
So here it is,bigger than the original and with an automatic ETA 2893-2 GMT movement.

Chris has been worried about this watch getting here since he posted it 3 weeks ago.
You can relax now Chris, many thanks

Cracking watch, Andy. Functionality, History, sharp looks, what's not to like about it?!? I like the day/night bezel, something you don't see everyday.

I'm a sucker for a GMT, and I have liked that one since I forst saw it. I love the lugs and the bracelet looks very Omega Speedmaster-ish. I hate a busy bracelet (for the most part). That's a good size and it looks really clean and legible. Reading the GMT hand is easy. It replaces the hour hand, and you use the minute hand the way you normally do. Just read the GMT hand against the numbers on the bezel and set it for whatever timezone you want to stalk.

Very nice, Andy. Ever since Chris (moish) posted when he got one, I've been looking at those. Really dig the style.

Yes Terry i got it from Chris at a very special "DWC family" price of $10. What a bloody nice chap

Thanks for all the 'words' fellas,it really is a cracking watch
David,i had figured that the hours in a second timezone were read off the GMT hand but was confused about how the minute hand would show the right time.....Der...i was having a dopey moment before realising the minutes remain the same worldwide  :raised: that calls for a new avatar.....hope not all of you know the character
