What are your thoughts guys?
Tried one on at my AD and it's pretty sweet.... really nice size, legible dial & the rubber crown guards etc are cool and easy to grip and I'm always a fan of a day/date set-up.
What's the lume like on these?
Random pic from the web....

The lume on these look sweet.
I think they were running $5750-$6000 new, not sure about used. That is nearly Fifty Fathoms Sport money so I skipped but they're very nice.

I enjoyed the standard AT 2000 I owned. It fit perfectly. I would already own this if it wasn't for the rubber finish, it really concerns me. I asked here once and read a bit about it on several WUS threads, I just can't take the plunge, because i'm not certain the finish can take my abuse.

I was wondering the same thing about the rubber clad... I'd hate to shell out big $$ on a watch that looked like crap after a few years of use.

..."few YEARS of use" .... that's funny. You might keep it for a few months though.
Seriously, I like that watch. Does it have the weird strap/bracelet system? You know how you like your NATOs and ZULUs. Would you be able to rock it on only rubber?

Dammit!! I knew as soon as I typed it that someone would call me out on that
Hmmm... I don't know about the strap / springbar set-up I might have to suss that out

Yes it has the same proprietary strap attachments. Why that watch wasn't finished in DLC is beyond me. I read the rubber peels when it scratches, rather than just gouging.

And on Mother's Day, Pat sets the women's movement back several decades.
PS: I like that model, Don, but in that price range I'd be looking for something with an in-house movement.
Also, check this WUS thread out regarding concerns on the rubber:

Just having read through that thread (and there are probably others) nothing was substantiated with photos, so I guess it simply offers some food for thought. The rubber coating might indeed hold up better than s/steel, PVD or DLC, I dunno...
Cool model regardless.

Yeah, I remember that thread; what a waste of time.
By all accounts the rubber coating of the Galapagos holds up exceptionally well, and yes, the Lexol Vinylex trick works brilliantly. With the exception of that WUSsy thread, where a random dude joins a forum specifically to bitch about a problem that he can't back up with pics and then disappears, I've yet to read a complaint about the rubber prematurely wearing. If there were some fatal issue with the process, one could be forgiven for thinking that after three years on the market we would've heard something by now.
Don, if this one floats your boat, I say take it for a spin.
Regards,
Adam
PS - And yes, it can be reapplied if necessary.

You all suck! It's as if and old girlfriend just came back to town. I have my eye on some other stuff, I have no time for this distraction.

Like that one...Only problem is the strap system...Options- Rubber, IWC nato(??)of some sort and or custom (ABP Paris)... Like Hoody, I had an IWC AT2000 and liked it a lot...
If you like go for it...

I love these, but then the new gen IWC AT aesthetic floats my boat big time. The proprietary strap system is a bit of a bummer, but apart from that, these are rock solid.

These are rubber only, amigos. Sure, you could probably get the bracelet on there, but it's gonna look pretty funny, IMO. As for the velcro dive strap, the endpieces are naked steel, so again, it's simply not going to look right.

Adam

Luckily the rubber strap is a good one, even though it is a little short. They do make a long version for those that need it.

Hmm you can probably get that bracelet DLC'd but it would have to be a matte finish for it to look right.

That is one great looking watch. Awesome, lume, too. And I'd say the rubber only set up works exceptionally well, looks wise. (no steel bracelet option)
However, it is hard to beat a good Kitchenaide mixer.

Those things rock.

I would never pay that much for a watch with a rubber strap. But it is a good lucking watch.

Price was $6900 at the IWC dealer, we saw one today I was pretty impressed with the overall looks and finish of the watch. Not a true dive watch, but still looks nice.
