Some Final Thoughts on the Tuna

Post by rockmastermike » Fri Jul 20, 2012 9:07 am

Well it's time to pack her up and send on her way back home so I don't become too attached to it. thanks again to MikeyLikesIt for the generous offer.

here are, in no particular order, a few things that left an impression on me:

1) the crown is great: very grippable with great ridges/texture. the threading just feels solid, nothing that feels thin or flimsy, on the contrary the action is strong. Plus having a signed crown is nice....I'm looking at you Mr. MM300

Image

2) the domed crystal (sapphire upgreded on this one) has a nice visual effect that is hard to describe without having expereince with it but adds to the flow of the watch - rounded crystal on top of dial with round markers inside a round shround surrounding a round case.

Image

3) Speaking of the dial - super black, pure unadulterated black, just like my coffee. Crisp and legible text and markers that are strong with consistent spacing, again, nothing cheap or "quick fix" about it. and of course the Lume is outstanding, as you would expect

4) Movement: I don't know much about it - it keeps spot on time against the USNO Master Clock so it's good enough for me.

5) Lug-less / short lug case design: first time I've worn one of these and found it to be very comfortable and lends itself well to a variety of straps (as you can see in my other Tuna thread)

Image

6) Bracelet has Solid End Links and overall is easy on the wrist. Brings the Tuna to another level, imho. Brushed to match the shroud and bezel and matches the watch head very well

Image

7) Bezel is wonderful to turn. just the right amount of pressure and solid 120 clicks as she rotates around. like the bracelet, the Brushed finish compliments the rest of the watch and only adds to the overall appearance

as we ride off into the sunset of our time together, I can honestly say I will miss her. This is a very well put together watch that pulls off the hard to combine tough as a tank yet comfortable as a pair of bespoke shoes.

Great final report. You have made me miss mine more. I really like the Seiko shrouded divers in all of their configurations.

Great to hear your thoughts. I never gave the Tuna a second look really before a few months ago and I'm so glad I took a chance and picked one up. One of the favorites in my small collection and I find myself putting it on at some point almost everyday. Like you said, that domed crystal gives it another dimension that is hard to capture in pics. Great shots and I'm glad you liked it. Nice write up.

Thanks, guys. I might be seeing one again in the future. If anyone has thought about a Tuna - it is worth a closer look!

Nice summary!

But, Tears for Fears...you lost a few points on that one... :)
