While I was in line at the Post Office this morning ...

Post by AZpops » Mon Jul 23, 2012 10:04 am

I noticed that out of the dozen folks, only 5 wore watches. From what I could tell, 2 were older dress watches, 2 were newer fashion watches, and one (and I'll put a "C" note that he was from Luke AFB) wore a SS Luminox. A couple of the folks without watches were checking the time by looking at their phone.

Ok Lance, so what's the point your trying to make? ... ... The Hell if I know? ... ... I just had sometime to kill before I wake the Boy up to play a few minutes of fetch n' take a leak before we catch some Z's!

Have a great day y'all! ....

Sadly, the use of a phone to tell the time is a growing trend. I tend to do some wrist spotting when I'm out and about. Sometimes, I am surprised to see an old vintage. Hell, one day we were in a restaurant grabbing lunch and I spotted an old Seiko 6309 or 6306 (hard to tell the difference unless you get really close or pull the crown out and I did neither that day! ). Mostly, I see mall watches or those cheapo quartz plastic wannabe ceramic watches that mostly women wear, but I see a few dudes wearing them from time to time. :gayumbrella: Oh and lots of G-shocks, which I think is cool. :fro:

I saw a dude who could sub for a J. Crew model yesterday at an outdoor concert wearing a Cartier Tank. He glanced at the Seawolf on my wrist and gave me a knowing look as he walked by. :shifty: :gayumbrella:

I'll bet he wasn't staring at your wrist there, bub. Wait, J. Crew you say? Well, we can rule out it being Rahul - he doesn't own a Cartier (or so we think). ;)

This a really cool topic AZpops ! So many times when your out in public you end
up looking around to see if people are wearing watches, and what kinds. Maybe
hoping to see a fellow watch person/fan or something, but more often than not
end up seeing less watches, and more phones. Guess it's just the way things are.
People tend to go with what is popular. Wish it was different but, it seems harder
and harder to find people wearing, or looking at a watch to tell the time today.
Think if people somehow became more interested in watches, maybe joined watch
forums, or just tried learning about watches it would be great, and you would see
more people wearing watches.

I travel a LOT and other than the cheap POS's, I'd say G's are #1 and on guys with suits, Rolex subs (real or not) and big, shiny B'lings..

I know what you mean watches are slowly becoming less popular and the next generation will be worse.

I like a good boardroom meeting where there is lots of wrist candy. I go round and price the watches when I am board

I converted one of my friends from a cell phone time teller to watches. Only problem is that he is in love with Invicta's. I guess you have to start somewhere, but I'm still working on him.

While at the mall this weekend I'd say over 1/2 the people I passed were wearing watches.

One time while I was at Barnes & Noble browsing the watch mags a guy walks over and asked what I was wearing. At the time I had on a Zinex Trimix 2000m. He was wearing some Invicta monstrosity. So we briefly started talking watches and an older guy a few feet away heard our conversation and came over to join in. He was wearing a vintage Rolex double red Sea Dweller :o . It had a beautiful patina to it. The guy said it has been his daily wear watch since the early seventies. Damn!

Holy shit. Did the older guy have any idea what that DRSD is worth?!

Yeah, the guy knew what he had. He took it off his wrist and let me take a look at it for a minute. It's funny but it was this guys everyday watch. It had scratches and scuffs but still looked beautiful.
