Re: Anyone have/had a Memovox?
Yeah, I had that one, but it had to fall on its sword for the Top Gay Perpetual. All I have left is my Incursion.
It was a GREAT watch, and perhaps one of the best, most accurate tributes to a vintage piece yet made. Who knows, perhaps I'll be able to snag another down the road.

Regards,
Adam
PS - Luke still has his.

The modern Memovoxes are great. That TTDSA shares the same movement, JLC Calibre 956, with the new Master Memovox, the Navy SEALs Alarm, and the TT Polaris. That specific example is being sold by a good friend of mine, who is a top-notch, trusted seller.
The new Memovox movement, Calibre 956, incorporates much of JLC's newest "Autotractor" features, including the ceramic ball bearing winding system. They are robust movements that were designed to last. Here are some links with additional info:
From JLC:

From PuristSPro:
http://jlc.watchprosite.com/show-forump ... 84281/s-0/
The TTDSA's alarm tone is tuned to sound like the original watch's "cricket tone," whereas the Master Memovox, using the same movement, is tuned to sound more like a school bell. You can hear the difference here:
http://forums.watchuseek.com/f419/few-m ... 90911.html
Here's some additional info on JLC's first Autotraor movement. These movements, and the changes and technology they house, are as important to JLC as the newest 8500/9300 calibres are to Omega, etc.
http://indepth.watchprosite.com/show-nb ... ti-352097/
And a couple of shots of the original (American dial version), upon which the above TTDSA is obviously based:

(Both photos borrowed from PuristSPro. Thx.)
Good luck deciding. To me, "Reverso" and "Memovox" are JLC. The TTDSA will definitely be highly collectible one day. Hope this helps. ;-)

Re: Anyone have/had a Memovox?
There's a difference between feeling fragile and being fragile. The movement is proven and tough, the watch keeps a low profile on the wrist in spite of its relative thickness (i.e. you're not gonna be smacking it against things) and the plexiglas crystal holds up quite well to daily wear and tear. To wit, I wore my DSA like I wear all my watches, and it was basically in LNIB condition when I sold it to my buddy Vic (now he has both the Euro and the American dials, that jerk).deepcdvr wrote:Fragile?JizJizJiz wrote:Yup. Fragile doesn't work well for me

Oh, and that European version is very cool!
Might as well look at a European version anyway since we are going the way of Greece economically..

Hey guys. I heard you were talking about my watch, and figured I'd come over and see what the fuss is about
. The watch never felt "fragile" to me, though it's certainly svelte as a result of it's reasonable size, and lack of bracelet. If you're used to wearing something like a PO or DSSD, the JLC will wear and feel much different on the wrist.

Not any more. Traded the American to me. Now it's off to a better home. To be honest I was not impressed. A lot of money for what is basically a Master Compressor Memovox in a LE/vintagesque version. And the MCM has better depth rating. But that's just me. Did have a neat look. However we know Paul is not gentle with his watches. So I would tread carefully. If you're looking at this one Paul why don't you consider Todd's FF?craniotes wrote:deepcdvr wrote:JizJizJiz wrote:Yup. Re: Anyone have/had a Memovox?
Actually, the TTDSA houses the new Calibre 956, whereas the Master Compressor Memovox uses the old Calibre 918. The new movement has all of JLC's newest tech, etc. I do agree that the TTDSA is ever slightly expensive, considering you can get the Master Memovox that I have, with the same exact movement, for a MSRP of less than $11,000 (new price), compared to what, around $17,000 for the TTDSA? (Used examples of these two models are within about $1,500 of one another, however.) I know the MM is a fair bit dressier, but it still has the equivalent 50m of WR (EDIT: Oops, the TTDSA is WR to 100m, the same as the MC Memovox), and more importantly the exact same movement, but tuned to emit the "school bell" tone, which I prefer. The Navy SEALs Alarm, also with the Calibre 956, is a better buy, dollar for dollar, too, IMHO.drster wrote: Not any more. Traded the American to me. Now it's off to a better home. Anyway, at the risk of overexposing my Memovox (I've been posting quite a few shots of it here, recently), here are a few more shots. If not in this thread, then where, right? ;-)
