Panerai--Which one?

Post by jimyritz » Sun Nov 11, 2012 5:20 am

Looking to the DWC experts for some knowledge...

I had a 112 and it was pretty good but just didn't have any staying power..Thinking again about another Panerai and have been looking at the 024, 025 and the 243....

Most important thing is how the watch fits on a smaller wrist (6.75)....

Would still like to keep it under 10K new....Options?

What do you guys think? Pros and Cons....

Thanks
Mike

What was it about the 112 that you didn't like? I would think the 024 and 025 wear very similar to the 112.

Mike,
the 024 and 025 will be your most versatile Subs. The 243 as you know is a much thicker beast, with a chunky bezel, and is just a totally different watch as a result. The 312 is one to look into...a watch I really love. It is very thick though, and I believe you're often "buttoned up" for work and such and thus it might not work well for you. Can't go wrong with a classic 000, or a 390. I'm personally a big 390 fan. With all of these PAMs, the classic Bettarini case (024.025, 000, and 390) wears a bit smaller than the 1950 case.

Don't get me wrong Chris, I liked the watch...maybe I got bored with it...Maybe I would like Auto instead of a manual,....It'sa good question and one that I would certainly need to conisder before I buy something else...

very intrigued also buy the 338...42MM rad w/gold hands..

Here is a PAM25 on my 6.75 inch wrist. Nice and light and wearable imho. I has a 111 which I liked well enough but to me it looked bigger than the 25 which is probably due to the bezel on the 25 making the dial seem a touch smaller. Anyway I really like the feel and look and don't find it overbearing at all.

1950 case is the one that appeals to me personally. 243 or 233 for me, both offering something slightly different. The standard Luminor case, especially all polished, doesn't really do it for me.

But neither available at $10k new, as far as I know.

Is there a model similar to the 24, but with a sandwich dial? Oh, Ti too...

The 42mm Rads are beautiful but wear very small because of the lug design. They make a great dress watch. The stars of the Inside Basel show were the new 47mm Rads. They are magnificent and unlike the 372 it does not wear too large on smaller wrists. Dr. Jay is smitten and his wrists are smaller than yours.

I like Rahul's suggestion of the 312. If you can deal with the thickness, it may be a great choice. It has much more stuff going on than the 112 does, so it may stick.

The 243 is awesome, but I have a hard time seeing it work for you since it really can't be worn to work.

Since I have both the 000 and 243, I can advise they wear very differently. The 243 is tall, a bit heavy and does not fit under most button cuffed shirts. The 000 on the other hand fits under shirt cuffs and works well with lots of strap choices, the 390 fits into this category too. Take a look at a 233, for a 50's case it wears a bit smaller and also includes an inhouse 8 day movement, GMT, domed crystal and display caseback.

Thanks....just worried about the cost of the 233, but it is a beauty...

I hear that, since they have been hovering around $8900 - $9500, but you get a lot of bang for the buck, and a "dot dial" is the one to have.

For me, when it comes to Panerai’s…simpler the dial is the better.

[quote="JizJizJiz"]Mike, your wrist is negligibly bigger than me, depending on how many times I eat at Lucille's in any particular week. Here are some pictures of PAMs I've had in the past, with my thoughts at the end.

Thanks Zack--really appreciate the pics....Got some thinking to do...
