What can you tell me about Maurice Lacroix?

Post by GGD » Sat Jan 19, 2013 5:05 am

Hey guys -

was at my local shopping centre today and wandered into a fairly low-level fashion watch shop that had a couple of Maurice Lacroix Pontos S Chrono divers in the window....

Does anyone know much about this brand?

They were ridiculously overpriced but looked very nice up close.... 43mm, brushed SS bracelet, chrono, internal bezel & they come on the steel bracelet w' a matching NATO.

The blue was very cool but the orange looked awesome IRL.

I really like the Pontos series, esp that chrono in the pic:)

Well... they do make their own cases (and they do a pretty good job of it), so points for that. Other than that, it's your standard 7750 so there's not a whole lot to say about the movement other than it's cheap and it works. I'd say that 7750s have caused me the least grief of any ETA movements I've had.

Their sportier models are a bit trendy for my taste; I don't think they'll age well. And their dressier ones always look a little off to me. But then again, I don't pay a hell of a lot of attention to ML.

My brother tells me that they're considered to be rather baller by Hungarians for some reason — right up there with TAG Heuer. :raised:

Hey Donna, I like the looks of these.

I have a ML regulator I bought off the bay (way less than retail btw). Not too bad in quality. Nothing special about the movement has an ML modified 6497. I like it for what it is, but no way I'd pay full retail.

I will say, they seem far above a run-of-the-mill fashion brand, IMO.

I guess they're trying come up. I really like some of their stuff, but not a full retail.
Agreed. Their ETA movements are way overpriced, but their in house stuff has some interesting designs.

A lot of their designs have always appealed to me. Resale has kept me from ever picking one up.

They seem to come up often in the used forums, no?

Wow, I didn't know they were an independent company; cool. I've glanced at a few when I've been bored during travel enough to check out the watch shops in big European airports. I always assumed that they were part of one of those big watch conglomerates, since their designs have a whiff of LVMH or entry-level Richemont (Baume & Mercier) to them.

I've owned a few, I think they make some very solid watches. Resale does suck, but buy low and you'll do okay, I just recently sold 2 and made money on both, the masterpiece collection is the way to go.

Thanks guys - yeah I figured they'd be a hard sell on the SC.... not a good option for a flipper such as myself (not that I'd even entertain the $4500 AUD sticker price).

Interesting brand and I have to admit it was a really nice looking watch.
