Post by River Rat » Mon Dec 07, 2009 6:58 am

I have two Elgin A-11's with 539 movement's one's a early one made in 1941 the other made in 1944 And I was reading Whitneys book military time pieces it's one of the better books on US miltary time pieces. And it said they changed the rachet wheel do to corrosion.I remember I had both.So I took a look at mine I did notice corrision on the early one and in the photo's you will see it and what they did to solve the problem by putting a oxidized black finish on the part's that had corrosion problems. Some movement were marked 15 and 16 jewel movement's the 15 jewel movement's were 16 jewel do to the second hand. I got both. And you will see a wench that open's the case of the water proof cases I got that for 5.00 at a NAWCC mart a few weeks ago saw one on fleabay go for 50.00 some one must of wanted that wench bad.
