For a bunch of guys and gals who work in the smallest branch of the DoD, who have to depend on the Navy for your transportation & medical care (Corpsman!), and get the majority of the hand-me-downs (which probably included DMB's old M1 Abrams, God only knows how bad that thing smelled), you all seem to have done quite well for yourselves.
Happy Birthday Devil Dogs.

Happy Birthday US Marine Corps
Happy Birthday USMC
My brother and I standing for the flag in our local (and hilarious) July 4th parade. 1665 on wrist.
Older brother retired as a Marine LtCol after serving in every clime and place. I spent a brief five years leading some of the finest men I've ever known in Somalia and various other lands. Great times. Semper Fi Marines!!

Good on you sir!
It is amazing how few people understand the importance found in small acts of symbolism and reverence. I look at all those folks sitting on their hind quarters as Old Glory goes by and I see this same lack of understanding during government functions. I am still shocked we don't brief civilian personnel on how to properly address the flag during ceremonies. I really would expect a higher level of respect from folks who have taken the oath of office, but when I bring it up, I am looked at as if I am borderline delusional.
However, last week they had a very nice ceremony where they pretended to give a shit about all the veterans who work at our agency, or so I am told. I stopped going to these things when the speaker at one of these events told everyone to be seated while the honor guard was still marching through the room with the colors. Only myself and a former Marine were left standing, hands over our hearts, until the honor guard and the colors had retired from the room. The speaker just looked at us standing there, like we were retarded, and started talking.

Happy B'day USMC and all those who served and are serving
Had a chance in 2001 to look over Edson's (Bloody) Ridge in the Solomon Islands. USMC basically handed the occupying Japanese force their ass when they tried to assault up these ridge lines. There were a lot of M1 Garand clips still lying around, and a few what appeared to be radio valves. J

Re: Happy Birthday USMC
Excellent post. And just one day prior to Veteran's Day. Awesome.
Thank you to all the Marines on hand here, and across the world. A Marine who served in Mogadishu lives across the street from me. He is cool as hell. I think I will need to take some cocktails over to him.
