ANZAC Day 2015.... Lest We Forget
ANZAC Day 2015.... Lest We Forget
April 25 is ANZAC Day here in Australia & New Zealand and commemorates the service & sacrifice of all of those men & women who have served these great Nations to protect our freedoms at home and abroad.
Today is also the 100 year Anniversary of the Gallipoli landing in WW1 which was the beginning of the ANZAC legend.
Lest We Forget.....
One of the coolest things I've ever seen is this poppy tribute in the centre of Melbourne..... what started out two years ago as a goal of getting members of the community to crochet / knit 5000 poppies for the 100th Anniversary grew and grew to the point where as of yesterday there was 250,000 +
Freedom is not free.

I can think of no better day to share this song. It's a favorite of mine and never fails to move me. These are my two favorite renditions.

Thanks for posting those Darin.... I haven't heard that song in years and it's as emotional as ever.
It was really good to see that they had record numbers at the Dawn Service at the Shrine of Remembrance this morning.... on a cold, wet Melbourne morning there was over 100,000 in attendance to pay their respects
We always remember our allies on days like today as well.

There was always a very special place in my Dad's heart for the ANZACs. BM1 (SS) H. Joyce, USS Sealion (SS-315).

That song is deep. God Rest Their Souls.
That Ottoman Empire was a nasty thing. 100 Years ago today they initiated the Armenian Genocide, which killed my ancestors.
to those ANZAC troops - and all who serve to preserve freedom.

Was up this morning at 0430hrs on a beach, watching the sun-rise and sharing the 100th year anniversary of Gallipoli with my fellow Aussies, Kiwis, Turks, and a bunch of other Allies. A very special and stirring commemoration this morning.
Thank you to all of the Allies who I have deployed with in the past and who I am deployed with now. It is a true honour to serve along side such incredible people.
Jules: Here's to you and your fellow Diggers, mate. Never truer, more solid mates when the stuff starts to fly.
For the Fallen and Wounded: We will remember them.

My signature says it all. I respect all that have put their lives in harms way for the safety of others. We had some big celebrations here in Canada.

The ANZAC Dedication: For the Fallen
by Laurence Binyon
They shall not grow old,
As we that are left grow old.
Age shall not weary them,
Nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun,
And in the morning,
We will remember them.
We will remember them.

Big thanks, yes a sad day to remember and celibrate all those who did not come home to enjoy what we have, where ever in the free world.jad3703 wrote: Jules: Here's to you and your fellow Diggers, mate. Never truer, more solid mates when the stuff starts to fly.

It was great to catch up with very good mates and enjoy each others company, tell tall stories and drink great beer. Marched with the Australian Army Training Team Vietnam Veterans AATTV. I'm very quiet today. J
