Family prayers request...
My daughter, Tracy (35), and her husband, Erik (36), have been waging an eight-year battle against a brain tumor diagnosed in Erik following a seizure while sleeping. They, and their two young sons have been fighting against long odds, with the help of doctors at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN (they live in Minneapolis). Following two brain surgeries, two rounds of chemo, and two courses of radiation, we thought Erik's condition might be turning around this Spring. As he was weened off the chemo and steroids, Erik's left side became weaker to the point where he needed an electric wheelchair.
They got the OK to go in to Mayo last week for another MRI. Unfortunately, Erik's tumor has grown significantly since March, and there are no further treatment options. The doctors are estimating he has only 2-3 months to live, and are not scheduling any further visits. My daughter, who is the most positive and happy person you could ever know, is now crushed by this news, which leaves her no hope she can cling to. She's been a rock for the family since the first diagnosis, but hasn't been showing it these past few days. Erik, who is a big, strapping former hockey player from the Iron Range of northern Minnesota, has taken the news in stride, telling me "it is what it is," as we spent 20 minutes discussing all the wild action from Saturday night's UFC 187, which we had each purchased.
These next few months will be extremely hard on Erik, Tracy, and their sons, Parker (10) and Mason (6).
Please keep them in your prayers! Thanks.

Re: Family prayers request...
About a month ago my cousin Danny lost a twelve year battle with cancer. I saw, from a distance, how difficult this was on my aunt and my mother, who was close to both of them during his fight. My thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family, Tom, and i'll continue to send thoughts of strength and support over the coming weeks.

It doesn't use numbers or moving hands
It always just says now

Man o Man o Man, Tom; that is really something. I am so very sorry for what your family is going through right now.
I'm not really all that much of a traditional judeo-Christian prayer sort of guy, but for this I will make an exception.
I suppose, given that it's Mayo, that Gamma knife is off the table? Mayo people for sure know their stuff in that regard. I'm headed to dinner with the marketing guy for gamma knife here in Spokane (he's the front man for the rock band that K sings with) in a few hours; if there was anything I could do there, I certainly would.

I read this and feel very heavy in my heart for your family tom. A lot of this lately with people I know and really has me feel like life can be incredibly difficult in addition to incredibly awesome. I don't know what to say other than I'm sure he is a great father, husband, son etc and his family loves him. I will keep him and family in my prayers. I am very sad to hear this.
