Spent an hour at the AD today

Post by dukerules » Fri Oct 16, 2015 6:24 pm

Finally checking out some Tudors. no pics, because it just felt wrong.
No black BBs yet, should be in in the next 1-2 weeks. Can't wait to see this one. So, amazingly, I've never seen a BB, Pelagos, Ranger, etc. in person.

My take:
The Ranger is cool, but a little underwhelming. And surprisingly, it wears small.
The North Flag is awesome. I'd love to own one.
The blue BB is nice, but just a bit meh for me. The red BB has an amazing dial, but I just need a black bezel.
They have two first-gen Pelagos left. Wow, I'm blown away by this watch. I've often thought about getting one, but the itch passed after picking up the MM300 recently. Well, the MM300 is a great watch in its own right, but it's no Tudor IMO. All the Fastriders/Scramblers/Advisors felt a bit second-rate compared to the other great stuff Tudor has out these days.

Oh, yeah, also spent some time in the Rolex case. The modern DJIIs are nice, but too damn blingy for me with the fluted bezels. I was on a white Milgauss kick for a while, but no longer. That watch is a huge let down in the metal. And the 116600 and BLRO are both amazing.

There's just nothing like Pelagos Gen1 out there.
I tried to replace it twice, Brice tried to replace it 9 times :)

Yep, it's stunning. I'm literally three years late to the party, but wow. It's really a pretty special watch.

You can get the DJII with a smooth bezel as well.

I tried the North Flag yesterday and thought it wore smaller than my Ranger, but what do I know.

Pelagos is a great watch, no doubt. I saw the blue and didn't find it as bad as in photos.

I like the Pelagos. Today, I tried several Omega pieces and nothing rattled my G-string. Was the Ranger on a bracelet??

I agree with you on the gen1 Pelagos. Did you see the gen2 back or blue? I don't think I've ever seen that much text on a dial.

I totally agree with you guys on the Pelagos, I wear it and my BBBlue a lot and I think they are both great.

it's one thing if you don't like the Pelagos because the hue/color of Ti isn't as shiny as SS, but the crazy stuff they were saying on Watchuseek about it feeling cheap and flimsy is just plain ridiculous. the Pelagos actually weighs about the same as a Sub on account of the SS caseback and if you wear it on the bracelet, the clasp is also SS.

funny how no one says the Sub ifeels cheap or flimsy...

Ti isn't for everyone. I was actually surprised by how substantial the Pelagos feels given that it isn't SS. Feels heavier than the Shogun felt.

Tudor did a great job in differentiating the Pelagos from the Sub and successfully meeting the quality bar they sought at the price level.

They had one on bracelet and one on leather. I much prefer the leather option.

They didn't have a blue gen 2 in. Said they received one recently and it sold instantly.

Don't you have a Tuna? And you find the Pelagos too tall?

I think the difference in perceived height is the way the bracelet meets the watch head. On a NATO either is tall.

Yeah I agree.
Tuna is an exception to people's size requirements due to the tiny lugs and shape.

The Pelagos was nice but I don't care for the proportions.

Rahul, love to hear some more on the North Flag...I tried one on (bracelet)and liked it more than I thought, plus killer price, with in-house... But now I am stuck between a Pelagos, North Flag, and the new Black-BB...

On WUS, they're comparing it to Invictas, not a Sub.

the 'cheap and flimsy' comment was in a thread called Titanium watches on the divers forum. dunno any threads comparing the weight to Invicta.

the weight of the Sub and SD is about 135g and 145g respectively as mentioned below:

https://www.minus4plus6.com/116710.php

the weight of the pelagos is approx 170g

http://forum.tz-uk.com/showthread.php?2 ... or-Pelagos

of course, how large your wrist size is will govern the final weight, but you get my drift...the Pelagos certainly weighs more than an all-Ti watch and compares favorablly to well known Rolex classics.
