Speedy ? 2

Post by Zach T » Fri Oct 16, 2015 10:57 pm

I have been looking at adding a Speedy to the collection as well. My question is which one? I have been looking at the 3570.50 but not sure if that is the best choice. Only want to spend about $2,500. Any help would be appreciated.

For $2.5k, that is the best choice.

That's the standard model. Everything else is a variation.

Or if you like exhibition casebacks, grab a 3572 or 3592 (both with hesalite front crystal), usually starting at 2,800 used.

The plexi is the classic, but there's something to be said for the durability of sapphire.

Agreed. As noted, the 3570 is THE Speedy. There are a lot of great variations, but if you want the real deal Moon Watch you must buy the 3570.

jmho, of course.

The Speedy I got recently is the first watch with a plexiglass crystal I've handled. I really like it. Looks cool and feels less lifeless than sapphire, if that makes any sense.

The domed plexi on the Speedy gives the watch a warm look, with a cool distortion effect of the dial markers when you view it from the side. The sapphire crystal doesn't have the same look or flow. OTOH, the plexi drives me crazy because it scratches so easily. And you can get the sapphire Speedy with the sapphire caseback so you can view the movement.

Although I own a 3570.50 any model with Hesalite is great in my book. This includes the 3572, 3592, Vintage models, and a handful of LEs which shouldn't be overlooked.

My friend's 35th anniversary Apollo 15 Speedy is awesome and essentially a 3572.50 but with a color scheme. You'll pay more for the LEs, and most will need a service straight away, but they are an option.

Joe that looks amazing. Worthy upgrade to 3570 IMHO. So it's 3572 or the older 3592. Is 3592 with Tritium dial?

Thanks Art!

Mine is a 3572, newer model, non-tritium dial. I was actually looking for a 3592 with a tritium dial, full gilt movement.... Those are beautiful (check Heuerville's speedy). There was one on recon last week.

As much of a 3570 fan I am I have to admit the 3592 is pretty.
