Rolex Sub question

Post by falcon4311 » Mon Oct 19, 2015 8:24 pm

I'm looking at this Rolex on a Canadian forum, since I'm not a Rolex expert, what sort of valuation would you put on the watch as described below. The guy has rock solid feedback. I'm just a little worried about the lack of service history and no box and papers. Does the Z serial indicate the year of production?

The 16610 is truly a classic, and there is never enough to go around.

This one is a Z serial, with no hole lugs, full links. Keeps strong time but no service history, and comes alone, but with my guarantee of authenticity.

Not sure how to grade it, but it sparkles on your wrist, with some polishing and very light ding and flea bites.

My trade value is $6,500 CDN and I am looking for one of the following in trade +- cash:

Omegas: DSOTM; GSOTM; Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch; Planet Ocean TI LI on blue rubber strap

Rolex: All 40 to 42 models considered

Other quality swiss watches considered up to 42.5mm.

I don't know what Canadian dollars are valued at right now, but my brother sold his 16610 for about $4450 USD about 18 months ago, full kit and a full service by RSC:

About 4000-4500 US as it looks like just a watch and bracelet.
Z series is 2006-2007 era. Later Z series have the engraved ROLEX rehaut.

Ya, it comes without anything other than the spare links. I'm very worried abut the servicing or lack there of.

I'm coming to that conclusion. I sent him an email and backed out of the deal.

Unless that equates to less than $3000 USD (I have no idea what the Canadian Dong trades at these days) I would pass on that shit.

Already done. To be fair, that was his trade price. his selling price was $5900.00 CDN.

I always interpret "no service history" to mean it will need a service soon, so set aside another $500.

I think it's priced high, but some of the estimates here are a little low, too.

Regardless, I'd pass. Contrary to his ad, there are plenty of 16610's to go around.

I would never buy a watch from someone who ducks describing it with this kind of bullshit.

Based on scarcity alone, I would pay this much or more. :raised:
