They finally listened.

When I was looking at classic dress watches a few years ago the GP 1966 line caught my eye. I handled a couple at Cellini and asked about a steel model. The salesman told me people had been asking for years but fell on deaf ears. Until now. Its MSRP is half what I recall in gold.

only accurate watches are interesting
Re: Girard Perregaux 1966 in steel
It's a worthy alternative to a JLC MUT in my opinion.

GP is in serious trouble, so they need to do something to sell some watches. This is a good start.

Their watches are overpriced and don't sell. Very simple.marchone wrote:What's the scoop?

I think at one point Al Armstrong was pretty much willing to sell them at cost (or very close to cost).CGSshorty wrote:Their watches are overpriced and don't sell. Very simple.marchone wrote:What's the scoop?

50% off one of these would be a good deal. Inhouse movement, good size, top finishing. Wish I could.
Maybe they'll show up on Jomashop in a few months.

True. That is just about the only way to sell them.JBZ wrote:I think at one point Al Armstrong was pretty much willing to sell them at cost (or very close to cost).CGSshorty wrote:Their watches are overpriced and don't sell. Very simple.marchone wrote:What's the scoop?

I really like their new Sea Hawk line even though some think it's a bit over the top. $12k for the diver and $15k is AP territory.CGSshorty wrote:Their watches are overpriced and don't sell. Very simple.marchone wrote:What's the scoop?
GP certainly has come a long way since re-inventing themselves and I do like a lot of their models, but it seems like they caught-up on prices way too fast and marooned themselves.

That's exactly what happened. Sea Hawk or JLC Navy Seal? AP Diver? DSSD? PloProf? It loses just about every time. At $6k the competition is much different.sierra11b wrote:I really like their new Sea Hawk line even though some think it's a bit over the top. $12k for the diver and $15k is AP territory.CGSshorty wrote:Their watches are overpriced and don't sell. It's a pretty watch and with a street price around $5k (?) it would be a nice dress watch.

It's a nice looking watch, but I would be hard pressed to choose it over a JLC Master Control which has an MSRP of $6850.
Re: Girard Perregaux 1966 in steel
Master Control is a tool watch by comparison.
