Groomsmen Gift

Post by zepp21 » Wed Oct 23, 2019 12:31 pm

Anyone have any good ideas for a groomsmen gift? I was thinking of watches for them (6) but don’t want to go too pricey or overboard. Also in tuxes so they’d have to go well with that.

Thanks guys!

Honestly if you do watches they only will wear the tux on the big day, so don’t be a slave to style. Get something cool, but special, and they will use all the time and think of you. Ares might be a cool choice if it’s in the budget. The venerable Seiko SKX at a lower price point. Matching natos? This would make fitting perfect for each guy and no need to size bracelets.

When I asked them to be a groomsmen, I had hammers that were engraved on the side that said “time to get hammered” and then groomsmen and date. Worst comes to worst, everyone needs a hammer and it’s a useful gift. Not sure what to do here.

Two gifts is already pretty nice.

I like the idea of an SKX007 for each if it's in the budget. Black dial will be fine with a tux, and it's a wedding, so people expect a little quirkiness (and a dive watch with a tux isn't exactly the height of eccentricity or anything). Plus, it's something they can wear for years.

However, if they're not watch guys, they may not appreciate an automatic that they can't manually wind - something to keep in mind. And if you do bracelets, they'll have to get them fitted, so maybe the rubber strap or on a NATO like Ed suggested, with the bracelet in the box.

You could always do a quartz Seiko of some kind on a strap - might be easier.

And Hamilton does a pretty wide range of quartz watches - pretty reasonable, especially from Amazon or the like.

Get them something useful, so that they’ll remember where they got it in a few years. How about a nice G-Shock?

I got my guys nice pens. Spent around $100 each (there are some online stores that have great discounts vs buying at a retail pen place).

That was 15 years ago and I noticed one of the guys still keeps his in his work briefcase and uses it daily.

I was in one wedding where the groom gave us all small Kershaw lock blade pocket knives. They had our initials engraved. Another one I was in had Swiss Army “Classic” knives engraved with our initials. Not expensive and something I used for years.

I like where Jacob's head is at.

Short of that idea, I'll second the Swiss Army Cadet knife. I keep one on my key chain and the aluminum handle panel has a smooth place large enough to engrave initials and / or a date.

Definitely this (or at least something meaningful), whatever it is. For one wedding I was in, the groom got us all decorative beer steins. It was nice enough, but it just sits on a shelf. My wife has angled for years to get me to throw it away, but I felt like I couldn't because it was a gift from the groom. But it was hard to argue with her that it was doing anything other than taking up space. Now that they're divorced, I really have no excuse.

For another wedding, the groom (who's an amateur carpenter), gave all of us a picture with a handmade frame reflecting something that we had in common (so everyone's picture was different). The picture he got me was an old map of Boston because we had been roommates there while we were both in graduate school. I still have the picture hanging in my office, and it remains meaningful. Plus he's still married to the same woman.

As a fan of Coach wallets I recommend this. If you have an outlet near you it’ll run you around $50 a piece.

knife or pen are a good call.

a custom knife would be expensive, but engraving a non-custom knife wouldn't be too hard to do.

a custom pen could be completely within range. it's something my FIL does in his retirement and, without engraving, you could probably get something made to order with whatever material (as long as it can be turned on a lathe) and whatever hardware you choose (color/style) for $30 or so. engraving might add another $5-10 each. tons of people out there doing this kind of work.

Hard to beat hookers and blow...anyway, assuming that that’s a nonstarter, front pocket wallet by colonel Littleton are great especially with individual initials on them. So is the lean essentials wallet by Raphael.
