2022 Wristwatch Resolutions

Post by AtomicTom » Tue Jan 04, 2022 10:15 am

Guys, was just thinking about this since it's the beginning of a
brand new year.

So many times we see, or hear about people making New Years
resolutuions. So it seems only natural that those who also enjoy
watches possibly have. Or at least may think about wristwatch
resolutions for the year right?! :)

So how about you? Do you have any wristwatch resolutions?
Or just resolutions involving the hobby in general by chance?

Nothing comes to mind, watch-wise.

I resolve to add one watch to the collection this year - I haven't bought a watch in more than two years, and I'm starting to get the itch again.

Not to worry, I've got some cream for that.

Not buying anything without selling one or more pieces.

Probably.

All I really want anyway is a 15400 but just way out bounds price-wise right now.

About 4 years ago I sold most of my collection when we moved to our house, which we never plan on moving again as this is my wife’s dream house. It was time for me to put on my big boy pants and do what was best.

But I miss them. I miss them all even though I told myself I don’t need them. Especially Sinn.
So I plan on slowly getting some back that are still obtainable for me. I have no plans go get back my old 16800 sub of any of my vintage Tudor.

I’m off to a good start as I just bought a Sinn 103 from Doug gamecock111. He listed it in 2018 and still had it, great price and all. I hope to find a 203 Arktis later in the year. That was my first Sinn I got in trade from Wu and I will always love that blue dial.

$80k?! Maybe wishful thinking on his part. To be honest I am out at current prices. Absolutely love it but can’t do it.

Could very well be. But if someone told me a few years ago that they'd be trading for close to $50K in 2021, I would have told them they were nuts.

Great watch but, yeah, current prices are absolutely ludicrous.

I want to thin the collection a bit. I'm up to 32 and there are 4 or 5 I hardly wear & wouldn't miss.

I love how you guys are so thoughtful, as well as reserved on everything. :salute:
But when you have been into the hobby as long as so many of you, or us
have been, it's really the way to be right?! ;) There's no rush right?! Or
need to be rash as Chuck said. Just as long as we enjoy the hobby at
the end of the day.

But it honestly is so much fun seeing the fascinating ways the hobby can
be enjoyed I think. Seriously, you can wear one watch over, and over for
days, or even weeks, or be looking for that next grail every week. Or be
looking for that retirement treasure like Roger ! Or even are
looking reignite your passion, and make a new collection rise from the
ashes like a phoenix just like Ben. 8-)

It's all pretty phenomenal imho. And hearing about it is just THE best !

Actually there really isn't any right way to go, or best thing to do when
it comes to watches when you think about it. Everyone's outlook, along
with journey is different. Not to mention just as much fun as the next.
And one thing is for sure, it will be terrific seeing how our resolutions,
and non resolutions hold up. ..Can't thank everyone enough for sharing
your thoughts !!!

If the author of the piece had simply kept one of the many RO's he claims to have owned, he wouldn't be facing this problem. Of course, people in glass houses and all that...

I know. I bought mine for $11.2k, sold it 5 years later for $23k because I thought that was too $$$ much to pass up, now I feel stupid and miss it.

2022 Wristwatch Resolutions

Post by SoCal C4S » Thu Jan 06, 2022 11:44 am

I’m just over 20, with the goal to scale down to 10 total (one watch box) by year end.

That being said, I have bought a watch already this year, but also sold one and have another 2 on their way out soon.

**Forgot to mention: planning on adding a green Sub41 this year.
