Hello from Tucson, AZ. need watch advice!

Post by mct54 » Fri Jun 24, 2022 7:35 am

Hi Everyone!

I joined today for one main reason my beloved 7002-7009 has stopped winding. I got it in the early 90's as a gift, wore it everyday till May 1996 and I had motorcycle accident. My left wrist was broken as well as my right tib and fib, also collarbone, ribs and compression fracture of the T15. Watch came off the wrist but not a scratch and still running. Fast forward a few years and some extra surgeries to the left wrist it became annoying to wear a watch on that wrist. So I put it away for about 5 years. 2005 I took it to a jeweler to have it serviced all with another Seiko 7006-7169 that I pick up on a trade not running. They came back all shiny and working. Wore them both about a year and lost interest. Got them out this year and the 7002 worked great for about 1 month and stopped. It will run for about 30 sec and stop. The 7006-7169 will not move and sounds like something came loose inside. I am at a crossroads here I just bought a Seiko X V157-0DC0 SOLAR. My gut feeling is I should get the other Seiko's repaired and I believe the 7002 would be worth it, not sure about the 7006? I haver heard horror stories about sending them out for repair and the high cost of fixing them. So I am looking for advice from all of you, especially any watchmakers in the group. Thank you all in advance! Hope to hear from you soon... mct54

Randy - welcome to DWC - I can’t help you at all with your repairs as I just “rent” watches, but I’m sure someone ear will chime in soon.

Welcome. I’ve never serviced a Seiko, but my guess is it’s cheaper to just do a movement swap.

Hi Randy, wow, so sorry about all of that with your accidents, along with those
injuries you experienced back in the day. As well also having to deal with all
of the trouble since. I can see why you have such a connection to the watch.
You both have been through quite a lot over the years, and to not have that
beauty on the wrist has to be upsetting.

Honestly have no first hand experience with a place that could help, but just
found this place in a search to add into the mix.

Wishing you great luck, and hope to see you around DWC ! :)
