Wrist size, strap size, and watch size input please
Wrist size, strap size, and watch size input please
Im looking to get some input on a couple of items.
1. What’s your wrist size? Im asking because I’m just shy of an 8” wrist and as a result many straps and bracelets are on the smallish size for me unless I go out to the 2nd from last hole, and that seems gorpy. Ive also had to get extra links for some of my bracelets. Do you have advice on +plus size wrist straps and bracelets? My arms are not fat and find it uncomfortable when I tighten down to a smaller hole or bracelet.
2. What’s your general preference on case size/L2L for a larger wrist? My happy place for watches is 42mm-44mm. I have one Oris that’s 46 and it just feels like a dinner plate to me. I also have a 39, and it definitely feels small, but I think it wears ok because it’s a dress watch.
Thanks -

I’m 7.5 but prefer to wear loose so I like straps for 8in wrists
Re: Wrist size, strap size, and watch size input please
Strap size: I generally like 130/90 - 140/85 sizes. I find the longer buckle section helps center the buckle on my wrist.
Marathon just released a new rubber strap “system” which includes two buckle ends. This allows for fit on most wrists.

I saw that - pretty cool. But, I dont wear rubber straps because of the heat out here.I'm on NATO/Zulu or bracelet generally. I need to get some canvas. I have a rubber for my Doxa and I cant wear it for more than a couple of hours except in the winter...
Im probably doing this all wrong - but, hence my stupid question here!

8 1/4" myself. I prefer bracelets or Nato/Zulu due to the way I can adjust the length on each side of the straps rather then having a fixed one.
That way I can put the clasp where it is most comfortable. Also many Zulu/Nato are long enough.

Im very thankful for everyone chiming in. I didnt think my wrists were that big, but I also didnt feel like there are a lot of choices for me - or, I was missing something. Your inputs are helping me to settle into a better reality. Thanks!

Mike, seems like another terrific topic to tell the truth.
I have around a 7 inch wrist.
You know what could be a great option for you?! ..NATO straps sir.
Have really gotten into them in recent years, and they have so many
styles, and types. Plus they are pretty versatile.
On case size, I actually don’t have any real preference. I have gotten
into vintage watches in recent years, and they can be 36, 37mm, and
lower. But then I have watches that are 44-46mm at the same time.
So on this end, there are no rules.

Get some isofrane or some ventilated rubber straps. Makes a big difference in the heat.Wario406 wrote:I saw that - pretty cool. Thanks for your input Tom! I use a lot of Nato/Zulu straps and bracelets. Erica’s too - they’re my fav’s!Wario406 wrote:Im looking to get some input on a couple of items.

You guys have big wrists. I usually pull three links from a standard bracelet. Sometimes four.

Re: Wrist size, strap size, and watch size input please
For context, I have a 7.25" wrist, but I like watches looser too - so closer to what normal people would use on a 7.5" wrist. Also, I'm through and through a bracelet guy - I only have 2 watches currently not sitting on a bracelet - a Nomos Weltzeit and IWC Portuguese 5007 - and only because I can't get an OEM bracelet for either.
I find size matters less to me than thickness (at this point, Hoppy is already typing up a joke...) - the same ~40mm diameter watch at 9mm thickness (think AP 15202) is much more wearable for me than, say, a 40mm 15mm thick watch (think Sinn 356 or Omega SMP Chronograph). The exception is the SD4k (116600) - that watch, at its size and thickness, just somehow works very well on my wrist - perhaps because of the super adjustable clasp.
As for Panerai straps, on the 44mm Luminor cases, I like the "regular' length straps - which I believe are 115/75.

Re: Wrist size, strap size, and watch size input please
Thanks Zack. As you know our wrist sizes are pretty close - but, I still need a minimum 10.5" Nato or a full 8" bracelet to be comfortable. That's one of the things I love about Erica's They fit and are all day comfy right out of the box.blkgsl wrote: ↑Fri Jul 08, 2022 12:24 pmFor context, I have a 7.25" wrist, but I like watches looser too - so closer to what normal people would use on a 7.5" wrist. 6.75” wrist and like Zack prefer bracelets. Natos drive me crazy with the “tucking” in of the tail…most standard length leather straps and rubber straps are either to loose or too tight… — typically wear 125/75 Panerai, etc..
In addition, many German watch brands standard straps are to long and I need a short..

6.75 and depending on the watch/thickness will determine what's on it. Thicker watches (ie. Sinn 206), I liked leather/canvas/rubber over bracelet. My favorite nato is the Haveston with the floating keepers and that works on thinner or thicker watches.
