WUS-type question, date vs no-date
Is there anyone here who was a hardcore “must have a date” kinda guy who made the shift over to a no-date watch and it stuck? I feel like I need a date on a watch, but there are so damn many nice no-date watches out there. I’m planning on making one more watch purchase as my final exit retirement watch, and I want it to stick. Anybody else made this change and had it stick?
If you put a large switch in some cave somewhere, with a sign on it saying 'End-of-the-World Switch. PLEASE DO NOT TOUCH', the paint wouldn't even have time to dry.
WUS-type question, date vs no-date
When I started and for many many years I favored having a date on my watch, but slowly transitioned away from that. The last few years I prefer no-date pieces because I enjoy the symmetry. Now I only own a single watch with date, but it’s the EZM3 with red date wheel, so it blends nicely. A no-date EZM and maybe a Speedy and I could easily exit the hobby.
Re: WUS-type question, date vs no-date
I’ll always prefer no date if given the option. Unfortunately, there aren’t a lot of great options.
Originally it was purely an aesthetic consideration for me. Now that I’m a little older, I can’t read the date without my reading glasses anyway.

I prefer no date. I always go for the no date option if one is available

Put me in the no-date camp, unless the watch has a particularly good or unique date execution like on some 'big date' GOs.

Re: WUS-type question, date vs no-date
I prefer no date. I'd have all no date watches except I do like my Seikos, and they don't make no date divers.
Re: WUS-type question, date vs no-date
I prefer no date models first and only go with a date model if it's my only option

Used to prefer date (except for Panerai) before I was glued to a phone and a computer which constantly show date

I absolutely was a hardcore had to have a date guy and made the change.
I don’t know how long it’s been now, but I just started to appreciate the symmetry of a dial that doesn’t have a date and the cleaner look.
Though I still like a 6 o’clock date on watch.

No date. Much faster to set in the morning.

Re: WUS-type question, date vs no-date
to your question...no, it was not hard to move from date to no-date the first time. And it got easier the more I did it so that now I move back and forth with no stress.
It really comes down to what watch you like - if you see a watch you like but are afraid of not having a date....it's not hard to get used to. go for it.

Re: WUS-type question, date vs no-date
i've always been more of a no-date guy. and even moreso since needing reading glasses.
Re: WUS-type question, date vs no-date
Relatively new collector opinion, for what it’s worth. I have both and find that the balance of the look of the watch is what’s important to me. I am not retired and wear glasses so I can see the date if there’s one there and sometimes appreciate it. I have no plans at this time to purge my collection to backfill with no date watches, in fact I like it on some watches and particularly like a nice discrete 6 o’clock date.

Used to be a "Must have a date" person, but myself liking no dates more and more. So much easier to grab and set in the morning, dial looks cleaner, etc...
Re: WUS-type question, date vs no-date
I find benefit to the functionality you get with a date, but overall prefer the aesthetic and convenience of no-date watches.

This.. use to think a date was a must have but not so
much anymore.

I’m coming over to this too. And, as Greg said, since I started wearing reading glasses a date is superfluous.jimyritz wrote:This.. use to think a date was a must have but not so

No date. Oddly, I miss it not being there…check all the time, but prefer the look.

Prefer a date option, but can live without it.
Re: WUS-type question, date vs no-date
I'm used to regularly checking the date. I have my second ever no date on the way but it's a watch who's movement is a no date movement. I hated the detent for it but the dial didn't have it. That said this new watch not having a date didn't deter me. The only time I need the date is at work and I doubt I'll want to tear it up at work anyway.

Re: WUS-type question, date vs no-date
To be honest, I’m completely ambivalent.
Re: WUS-type question, date vs no-date
I can do both and even day/date but I prefer no date for aesthetic reasons. The number in the date window is also pretty small so hard to read ...

Re: WUS-type question, date vs no-date
it is according to how the date is placed. if it throws off the look of the watch then it is a no-date. but I like a date if done correctly.
