Do you enjoy pronouncing watch brand names right? Or wrong? :)

Post by AtomicTom » Thu Jul 28, 2022 9:38 am

Was just thinking about this guys.

I really will butcher a lot of watch brand names so much of the time.
What’s funny is I will often do it on purpose too. Because I’ll see the
name, and then just say it the way it looks to me. Even though I might
know the correct way to say the name.

Honestly I just have fun with the names a lot of the time.

For instance TAG Heuer is Tag (like the game) and Heuer, is Hower,
like Howard without the D. While Hublot is Hugh Blot.

Blot, Hugh Blot. 8-)

So how about you?

Do you pronounce watch brand names correctly all the time? Or do
you pronounce them wrong some times? And enjoy, or have fun doing
it too?

I love JLC as a brand as well as the watches they produce, but I absolutely dread pronouncing the brand name…

Is it a sin to pronounce Sinn as Sin when really it should be pronounced Zin?
Stowa as it's written or Shtova as is correctly pronounced?
Then the ever controversial Oh-meg-ah or Oh-mee-gar?
Thank heavens for Seiko

There used to be a website where you could pick the brand and listen to the correct pronunciation. That’s how I learned that “Lang” in ALS is actually “Lang-EE”.

Man, I am so glad that you guys are on the same page with this. :)

I have to admit, that I wasn’t sure or not, if you might be upset
that I don’t pronounce them right all of the time. But it seems
as if we all think about all of it in a light hearted way. ;) With
blkgsl really saying it perfectly in that it makes the hobby more
fun.

Yup, Junkers is Junkers, and I’m sticking to it.

Really cannot thank everyone enough for joining in on this, as
well as for all of the laughs !!!

 So funny Terry, and really, unless you, or we walk into a store that
specializes in one of these brands, then you, or we should be free from
being corrected, or yelled at.

Thank you just for looking sir, as well as for making us smile !!!

Seiko’s “Prospex” gets miss pronounced all the time on YouTube. Most of those guys pronounce it Pros-pex. For the record, it’s
Pro Spex. As in professional specifications.

I’m guilty of that. No idea why as I know how it is to be pronounced but when recording I end up saying it wrong almost every time. Image
