So my wife bought me a watch...
A Gucci, yes a Gucci. Go ahead, laugh and ridicule, but before you fall out of your chair, let me explain. Not long ago, we were watching that movie "House of Gucci" - you know the one with Lady Gaga. Anyway, because it's set in the '70s and '80's, I mentioned that in the eighties, the Gucci watch with the red and green vertical stripe (Gucci signature colors) on the dial was everywhere. The watch was deigned by Severin Wunderman, later of Corum fame, who in 1972 managed to meet with Aldo Gucci and convince him that Gucci should add a line of watches. From the start, the red and green model was the most popular, and is still produced today. But, I digress...
I told her that I had one back in the day, and we finished the movie, which wasn't bad. A week or so later, this watch showed up. Needless to say, I was very surprised. She told me that because I am Italian, I should have a "fancy Italian watch". Well, I though that Panerai is also a "fancy Italian watch", but I kept that to myself. Over the years, my wife has absorbed the type of watches that I like (stainless, automatic, etc.), and I have to say that this is an exceptionally nice one. It measures in at 40mm without the crown, came on a Gucci leather strap with a deployant, and is powered by an ETA 2892 movement with small seconds. To me though, the best part is the dial and matching rotor. I think the dial pattern is really unique, and sets the watch apart.
Although probably not a watch that I would buy for myself, I do love it. Not to be sappy, but mainly because my wife gave it a lot of thought, and bought it for me "just because".

Wonderful wife; wear it with love and pride.
Re: So my wife bought me a watch...
Fabulous wife. Watch is actually pretty cool!
Re: So my wife bought me a watch...
She’s a keeper Steve, but you already knew that !
I dig it, very understated as opposed to what could’ve been. Congrats.

Re: So my wife bought me a watch...
I like it, minimalist with subtle styling. Not a bad size either for an all dial watch.

Yeah, truthfully just the fact that your wife bought this for you is too
cool Steve ! Then just hearing the whole story behind the watch,
along with you guys watching that movie together was THE best sir.
I mean it makes the watch instantly become an immediate highlight
in the collection imho. Plus the watch itself really is phenomenal if
I am being totally honest. The whole design really grabs you, yet
is super refined, and ultra easy on the eyes.
Can imagine that this one will be getting a lot of wrist time Steve.
And be turning both yours’, and others heads out there. ..Wow, and
how about the movement sir?! Sounds like Gucci pulled out
all the stops inside, and out. ..A GIANT congrats here to you !!!

That's really nice - I work in an office. I'd wear that thing proudly.
About 5 years ago, my wife let me know that she found a great deal on a "nice German made watch" and that she would put it under the tree for Christmas.
I was stoked - Stowa? Sinn? Nomos? Nope.
Sturhling. She saw an ad on the "Today" show and jumped on the "special holiday price". For $50 . . . it's a decent Daytona knock off. It's the thought that counts. I still wear it.

That’s the best kind of gift. She tried to get something of interest for you. Sweet.

Man, I'd wear that and I'm not into dress watches at all. Your wife has a good eye :-)

Re: So my wife bought me a watch...
Sweet watch! Once you said automatic everything was cool. Love the matching face and rotor. My wife wants fewer watches around the house, so she'd never do what your generous wife did! Enjoy my friend.
