Foster Watches

Heard these guys on a couple of podcasts this week. I think its a cool looking watch. If Montgomery Wards and Benrus had a baby.

Kinda interesting. Maybe fix the title? Foster, not Forester.

Any idea on price? I didn’t see one.

I heard “mid 4’s”

I like Todd’s better as a traditional Benus - this one is kinda funky in a good way.

It’s starting to look like 39mm is the new 42mm.

Im not a 39mm wrist... but, I hear what you're saying. 41mm is my happy place. 39mm is a non starter for me.

I’ve noticed that

I just had a 39 (Dagaz cav) and it fit great - my wrist is a bit over 7” and flat so 39-44 works

That said, the older I get the more I enjoy the smaller cases.

This is a cool piece ;)

39 is too small for me especially with that small Dale and wide bezel

38.5mm Seiko solar on about 7.25” wrist. I’m appreciating smaller watches as well as I get older.

Nothing wrong with 39mm alarm clock size is a thing of the past. The old size is new again.

42mm as an example isn’t an alarm clock, especially with a 7.5 inch wrist

I have a 7 3/4 wrist. A 39 looks like a dime on my wrist.

not a bad looking watch but not ground breaking. weird how the recessed the case back on the watch. i wonder if that would cause any sealing issues. also what is the point of a 48 click bezel? quick release bracelet is a hard pass for me

39 is not for me. And no 39 is not back. Just cause Tudor is listening to IG doesn’t mean anything. Look at Rolex and other big guys, Sub41, PP AP new models are 41 etc etc

I agree. Depends on what you are looking at. Many, almost countless microbrands are doing 39 and below, but the bigger brands seem to keep doing 41 and 42 and haven’t hopped on the small watch trend, at least not yet.

Yep, Speedy, SMP, new RO, Nautilus, JLC, Blancpain, all Seiko divers, 100 other watches 40+
Tudor threw a bone for small guys with BB 58, BB Pro GMT which is entirely too small for its thickness that’s why everyone is dumping them, and Pelagos Reduced - enjoy 👍 but it ain’t a trend

My dad called them Monkey Wards too!

As I recall they sold Patek in their heyday

Those watches of Mikes are 38 & 39mm and don't look small at all. I guess some small watches wear bigger and vice versa, all down to dial size, bezel width etc. My watches vary in size and if any looked or felt too big or too small I wouldn't keep them. The sub 40mm watches do really seem to be making a come back.
As for those Foster watches, they look OK but don't stand out as anything really special.

Under each watch I put the case size. On some 38-39mn the bezel and sometimes longer lugs and dial size make them look bigger all are 20mm strap size just like Andy said . To me there perfect specially the Hanhart 417 same model Steve McQueen wore when he use to race motorcycles the king of cool.

I think a lot of it has to do with the ratio between bezel thickness and dial opening. I have a 38mm Hamilton that looks good (IMO), but it has a very large dial opening and narrow bezel.
8819F462-981C-4F94-83F2-C6C5DAB8C4AB.jpeg
My SBDX001 is he opposite, with a smaller dial opening and wider bezel. At 44mm, it doesn’t seem visually overwhelming.

My Eterna KonTiki was only 42mm, but I sold it because it visually seemed big with the pronounced dial and narrow bezel.
02BD63CE-CF07-41B8-BD60-A172F156821A.jpeg
There seem to be “perfect ratios” in watch design relative to case diameter, dial opening, bezel diameter and even lug width. When a designer hits those marks, the watch is generally well received.

First I’m not saying or telling anyone what to wear. I personally do not care for 38 or 39mm watches.
I started posting pics only because River Rat said like alarm clocks on the wrist, and I posted a 42mm on my wrist which for ME doesn’t feel small or large.
Granted many many years ago I wore large ass watches, still wear some big gshocks, so going down to 42mm was a struggle for a long time, but now it’s my sweet spot.

And pictures taken with a cell phone vs an actual camera look different, the cell camera makes things appear bigger. Here’s a pic of a 39mm on my wrist. Is it horrible looking? No. Would I wear this? Nope, it’s just not for me. I have no issue with the smaller watches or those who choose to wear them, I just prefer slightly larger.
