Sunday Battery Swap

Post by Zidane » Sun Nov 27, 2022 10:38 am

Noticed my 2264 low battery indicator was going off (seconds move in 3 second increments), so I dusted off the trusty battery change tools and got to work. This is the third time I’ve done this and so far, so good. I’ll eventually need to get the seals replaced but I haven’t any issues thus far. Probably saved $1500+ in service cost.

Movement is still running like a top.

Then I got to thinking…where are my old Citizen watches from middle school? Found them and luckily had the right batteries on hand (so random!). Casebacks came off with a bit of work and thankfully there weren’t any battery leaks. One had the calendar set to 1994. Image

They fired right up and are running great. Pretty impressive really.

Maybe I’ll give them to my daughter in a few years.

And now…mimosa’s! Happy Sunday, gents. Image

Nice job. Are there any tiny screws holding the battery in? I didn’t see any in the pics. It is one thing that keeps me from trying to do the same.

Yeah, I’ve used it for years. Useful for keeping track of timekeeping and when you wore stuff last.

Nope. You just need the tool to remove the case back, once that’s off you just pull off the antimagnetic shield and pop the battery out. There’s a little detent that keeps the battery snug but that’s it; no screws.

Yeah, wow, terrific work Nick ! :) Man, you are on fire it looks like. :headbang:

It’s amazing how how easily you were able to do all of these. Honestly
is something that I haven’t tried because I’m worried I will end up doing
something wrong. Or cause damage of some kind. However, you are like
your own private watchmaker sir. ;)

And a very fine one at that ! ..Excellent job once again Nick, enjoy !!!

I think I have the identical tools, and sat down to do this a few days ago. Then I chickened out because the caseback opener can’t line up 3 of the pins on the five holes on the back. I see that you have only 2 of the 3 pins in the tool, which makes sense, but did you get a good enough grip to not risk putting tool marks on the watch?

I did some searching, and it looks like a tool with 5 pins for Omega cases starts at $40 for something from China. My AD is about an hour drive away since they moved, so I need to either find a free afternoon to go there, or punt on tools. :banghead:

Did that not too long ago. Actually… not as bad as I thought it would be.

That’s a cool feature that it skips 3 seconds when low. Never had a higher end quartz watch before. Is that normal or do most quartz watches just die?

I think most just die but I haven’t had many quartz other than my SMP and X-33s.

Sorry, the bit had fallen off for that pic. I actually used 3 and didn’t haven’t any issues marking the case back holes.
