Watch projects 2024

Post by CarloDWC » Tue Jan 16, 2024 9:05 am

This is a Seiko Turtle Special Edition, it was upgraded with a domed sapphire crystal, OEM Seiko Stargate Orange Dial, OEM Seiko Samurai hands. I then installed a smooth pilot bezel and made it a Land Turtle (Testuggine). A silver chapter ring was also installed and it is on the original Seiko bracelet.

This one is actually an Islander Turtle so it already had the domed sapphire and lumed ceramic insert on the bezel. I added a Namoki dial and hands set along with a Seiko NE15 (6r15c) regulated movement. The bracelet is original Islander, this is Turtle Modello Numero Uno.

My goodness Carlo, 2024 just started ! :excited: :o :) These two turtles right here
are probably a year’s worth, or even lifetime amount of mods. I mean it is
two weeks into the new year, and you have already created watches that leave
us in awe sir. And it’s yet another example of you showing us that there are no
limits to the joy this hobby can bring. ;) With any direction we take giving us,
or bringing us great happiness. And honestly modding seems like it is so much
fun it’s hard to put into words, and that is coming from this side of things.

Just seeing, watching, and learning is a wonderful part about this hobby Carlo.
With these two turtles feeling like two totally different watches thanks to your
amazing magical touches. 8-) 8-) ..As you can imagine, it’s incredibly hard to
choose which is nicer because they both genuinely rock !! :headbang: :headbang:

THX so so much for the post !!!

Your builds continue to amaze me Carlo…

I’d love to see your bench and some “in process” photos. You whip these out like some people snap together legos - and, I know it’s not that easy.

What’s your scrap rate? Do you ever mess up hands or faces? I dabbled a teeny-tiny bit on the Karls Korna that I bought from you some time ago. I converted it back to stock, and needless to say my first attempts were hard and I marred up a face and had to get another one… Doing that really gave me a lot of respect for how hard even something as simple as swapping out a set of hands can be…

Thanks as always for sharing your builds.
It is better to know how to learn than to know.

Cool mods Carlo! You're right Mike, fudging with watches is not for the faint of heart. It's super easy to scratch hands or dials and of course it's super easy to introduce dust once you open up a watch. And that's just the dial side. Once you start messing with the movement it gets hella real.

Thank you for the kind words. I have had a few mess ups, these are small parts and easily damaged. With practice and care one can successfully complete projects without "fatalities".

The orange watch was just completed so I want to enjoy it a bit. I do have another Orange one that I might post soon.

Here is my latest project, Islander (SKX007 homage) Outdoor Sunshine. The case is essentially an SKX007 with drilled lugs, domed sapphire and smooth bezel, OEM Seiko Movement, SKXA35 Dial and SPORK hands.

Whoa, I somehow missed these last two wonders of yours Carlo !
My gosh, what is it like to be able to do these kinds of things sir ? :excited: 8-)
To take these watches, but also the level of enjoyment of the hobby
to new levels. It must be just great, as well as give you a remarkable
feeling inside. Because on this side of the screen it is eye opening
to see honestly. I mean the Phantom Pilot looks almost vintage with
it’s ways at first. Then like something from IWC in which we might
see 100 years from now. 8-) While the Outdoor Sunshine really does
feel like pure warmth and spring time joy ! :) As sporty as can be,
but still refined and fun.

Holy macaroni and cheese, you have to love the both of these !!
I know I do Carlo. ..And it’s a genuine joy just to see. So thank
you so so much for letting us enjoy all of these with you !!!

Nice work, that was what I thought when I admired it, "that's wearable, and looks sound, that's a good mod".
