Which Seiko should I keep in my collection

Post by auder.lisboa » Wed Feb 07, 2024 4:52 am

Hey there!

Please, I’d like to know the opinion of fellow collectors.

I intend to keep only 1 of my 4 Seikos in my Dive watches collection, which one do you think would best represent the brand?

(a) Samurai Great White Shark

(b) SKX007 made in Japan

(c) Sumo first generation

(d) Turtle collab PADI

For me that would be the first gen Sumo. It is the most elegant of all.

But for you should be the one that you like the most of that four. Every single one has that Seiko DNA, all are entry level divers and you can't go wrong with any of them.

Based on looks, the Padi. Based on wearability and most likely to represent the brand, the skx007.

You'll probably get a different answer from everyone, which raises the most important question: which one do you like the best?
That should be your answer. Don't get caught up in what anybody else (especially watch nerds) thinks.

Anything with the Prospex logo on the dial would be the first to go. Then I'd find the oldest one and that'd be the one I'd keep. Seiko is not at all what it used to be.

Possibly the sumo but probably the SKX.

I'd keep the SKX. I should have never sold the 10 or so of them I've had over the years.

SKX all day. Pepsi is a looker, but not hard to find. I think you’d miss the SKX.

The Padi NAFT, which IMHO wears the best out of all of them.

I agree with keeping the SKX007. You could a nice bracelet from Uncle Seiko and have a classy looking dive watch.

Alternatively, SKX007 prices have been going crazy, so you could potentially make the most by selling the SKX. If you need to raise funds, the SKX is probably the best one to put on the block.

Wow Auder, they all represent the brand great, and I am afraid I am going
to be if no help in saying which to keep.

It would be cool if you keep them all. ;)

All of them rock, so honestly, just go with your heart with this.
Thank you so so much for showing all of these to us though !!!

I’ve been wearing Seiko dive watches since 1980, and have a soft spot for all of them. However, the SKX007 is most representative of the history in my opinion. It is the lineal descendant of the 62MAS, 6105, 6309, and the short lived 7002. Inexpensive, tough as nails, sized right, and - using an overworked word - iconic.

Any pre-Prospex Seiko.

Who cares what other people think? Totally agree with Terry, the only thing that matters is that you keep the one that you reach for most often.

I'm gonna agree with keeping the SKX. I've also owned 8-10 over the years. Don't remember selling any, but I've given a few to friends and family. I still have one that I've had for a while, it's not going anywhere. Every time I've been SKX-less, I've gone after another one. I can't say the same about the Sumo or Turtle.

All the more reason to ask. He should have made a decision by now and sold things.
