Deepest sympathies to those impacted. So sad.

all i can say is thank god it happened in the middle of the night on a monday night. if that had happened during rush hour tuesday morning, it would have been far more devastating.

I watched the video in shock. I’m glad the mayday call allowed them to shut down car traffic, but the loss of those construction workers is devastating.

The scene from the movie "Leave the world behind" came to mind as soon as I heard the news.

Chiming in as I'm local. Absolutely insane, and terrible for the guys working that got lost (a good friend teaches one of their kids). All kinds of wild speculation out there, but I know it is going to have a significant impact on the mid-atlantic region for some time.

From what I’ve read the harbor pilot acted quickly (<90 sec) to call to shut down car traffic on the bridge. Well done.

and the first responders were incredible as well. super fast response to shut traffic down within minutes, and there was literally a cop about to drive onto the bridge to try to get the workers off when it started to collapse.

That was horrific, more devastating and than I’d expected.
I watched another video today of U.S.59 Bridge in Sillsaw Oklahoma being barge struck. Thank God it wasn’t a catastrophe.
I understand the failure of Key Bridge, but I thought the piers would have been impregnable.
