Any Nitrox Divers?

Post by namor » Tue May 06, 2025 8:23 am

I got certified for Nitrox long ago, but haven't used it in many years. However, I kind of like this LE Squale from Gnomon:

Its on sale too, at $995. Anyone else think its interesting?

I’d love it without the flag. I know I’d get tied of that quickly. There are plenty of better looking Squale models.

yeah, same reaction. i never certified nitrox, but i wouldn't necessarily want it badged on anything if i did. seems pretty random.

Certified Nitrox diver here (fairly inactive)

Funny - most of the divers I’ve seen have worn either a Seiko or Citizen. A few have had either a sub or a dweller . I honestly don’t think they care much about logos & branding and certainly don’t have the WIS sickness like some people 🤗

i've dove with some micros (halios, helson, christopher ward) and my sinn U1, but none of the really expensive stuff. and i agree, most people are just diving with computers and *maybe* have a backup timer as a watch. they're usually not anything special. that said, my first divemaster when i qualified in belize was always wearing omega and rolex and loved getting deals on watches. but this was 2009 and before i got the WIS sickness.

We were Nitrox certified when we were diving and dove with computers, but I always took a dive watch with me as a backup to time safety stops if needed. If the computer were to fail, the plan was always to abort the dive and use the watch for a safety stop. Never happened in 10 years of diving. All that said, Having a Ntrox theme seems silly. What about those with Advanced Open Water certs? Rescue diver cert? Where does it end?

a rescue diver cert might be more interesting. that's something to be more proud of than just nitrox.

closest i'll come to anything like that is my PADI turtle, but i'd have bought that w/o the PADI on it cuz it's a good looking watch.

Nitrox (and Trimix) certified...though never really considered using a watch dial to advertise it.

I usually have a Seiko on my arm for the time-at- a-glance as it's easier than cycling through the dive computer menu to get at it.

Currently diving in Borneo with this Seiko SNE:

I went as far as DM and a few specialities, but never bothered with Nitrox. Dived with all of mine, Sub, Seamaster etc., except for the two latest (Railmaster and IWC Spitfire). Like the look of the Squale range.

I dive nitrox when I get time to dive. I wear a Doxa Sub.
