Mesh gurus - is Omega worth it?

Post by citizenfox » Fri Feb 04, 2011 12:05 pm

Not even going to say what this is for or Adam will send over his JLC and Ti Octopus to take it out in the back alley and rough it up.

But, if you were going to buy a mesh for a keeper, whatever that means. Is it worth the extra $$$ to get Omega over the others on Freda or the Tung Choy....

Let me preface my response with this: I have never tried the Freda, Tung Choy, or Staib mesh bracelets. I had one quite similar on my Trimix (both the original mesh and the upgraded mesh with links for adjusting length) and I liked them okay. But none of those could touch the Omega mesh - I think it's that good. Just note that if your wrist is >7.5" you'll need the extension piece and an extra spring bar (to attach the extension to the bracelet of course). The bracelet is smooth as silk and I have never had a single arm hair pulled when wearing it. :fro:

Absolutely Yes. The omega mesh is by far the best, and to me, the only.

Molds comfortably to the wrist.

Have it in 20, 22 and 24mm.

Yes I have a 22 and a 24 just for those days I need a bracelet on one of my watches without OEM bracelets. I have to use 2 extension peices for them to fit and one extension is probably worth the same price of admission as a whole bracelet from one of the cheaper suppliers.

It works on so many watches my LLD and SOH in particular. I use the Omega mesh in preference to the Breitling mesh on the SOH and thats got to say something.

Have to admit, I like the look of the Non-Tube Omega. To me it just look smore "right" than the tube ones.

Cool CB. Helson was nice-but again not even close to Omega IMO.

Get them while you can, Omega changed them to a tube-end style

For me it's either the Omega or the UTS.

I am in full agreement. Omega is one of the best mesh out there. I like the UTS as well but it is more expensive than Omega.

Bill, I have the shark mesh from strapcode (third on your pictured list) and I'm happy with it, very comfortable, flexible, no pulled hairs.

Peter Helson has some leftovers from the Sharkmasters. I may try one of those first to make sure I like the look, I've never actually worn a watch with mesh besides trying on a B'ling Heritage, before I bust the move.

Helson was pretty good. Works the same way as Omega also with the clasp deal. I was suprised at how nice it was-again not close to Omega so if mesh is your thing go Omega-if you kinda like it or wear it once in a while Helson is good.

I have never liked the look of the Omega open ended mesh,it always looked unfinished to me,with the springbars showing. The Omega mesh was made for and sold with a shrouded lug dive watch originally,so an end tube wasnt needed.
However,i love mesh,it looks great and is really comfortable. After all the years of not liking the look of the open ended Omega mesh i am now seriously thinking of getting the Tung Choy version for my 22mm lug watches, its very affordable and well made by the look of it,so worth a try.
If its not going on a shrouded lug Omega i wouldnt bother with the Omega mesh personally but everyone who owns one seems to think its the dogs bollox, cant argue with that  .

:1: bought my super oyster with fitted endlinks for the 6306 from William Jean. When it arrived, one of the screw bars in the links was stripped. Rather than just send an extra link, he sent a complete new bracelet (sans the clasp). Highly recommend him.
