Hope this was a carbon monoxide issue or something along those lines and not something more awful.

One of the greatest actors ever. RIP, as well as his wife (and dog).

yeah, when i heard "and wife and dog," it sounded sketchier. even tho they say "no foul play suspected."

Yes, RIP. I’m wondering if “no foul play” includes group suicide. The only time I hear about multiple deaths in a home situation like this (excluding obvious violence) is carbon monoxide poisoning from a generator or something.

The dog too? Has to have been carbon monoxide poisoning. He was a great actor. Didn't realize he was 95.

so now they're investigating it as suspicious. according to abc news, gene was found on the floor in the kitchen, sunglasses on the floor next to him. his wife was found on the floor in the bathroom and a bottle of pills scattered across the counter.

yeah. i'm kinda wondering if she took pills as a suicide after he died, and then the pills got scattered on the floor and the dog that died got some? who knows. they don't even know how long they'd been there on the floor. the bodies were "decomposing" already.

Gene dying of natural causes and the wife committing suicide makes sense. I just don’t get the dog left in the crate in the closet (why kill the dog?) and the scattered pills.

You’d think, if she OD”d on pills, they would’ve found her body in bed, not on the bathroom floor. Pills don’t kill that quickly.

Since we’re wildly speculating here. Wife OD’s, Gene is shocked and tries to get help, but falls as a 95yo man is apt to, hits his head, dog eats some of the pills.

Makes sense, but again, other than hard core opioids, I don’t see an OD happening face down in the bathroom. In bed, or in a chair, etc. - fine. But crashed out on the tile? Not unless she had a needle in her arm.

The bathroom thing to me suggests she was moving and trying to accomplish something prior to collapsing. Maybe she was 90% cooked with carbon monoxide and thought she just had a migraine? She goes to the bathroom for Advil and passes out.

I also don’t get the dead dog in a death/ suicide scenario. Even a distraught spouse wouldn’t leave a dog to starve to death in crate. That is pretty cruel.

Yup, crazy story.

The only way I know about hantavirus is from watching “Vicegrip Garage” occasionally. Derrick, the mechanic host of the show, revives old abandoned cars. He uses a giant shop vac, which he calls his “Mouse Sucker 9000”, and jokes about getting hantavirus from the dust.

I guess it really isn’t a joke.

No it’s not. When we did environmental remediation jobs where it was a possibility, we used commercial shop vacs with HEPA filters and also put the crew in Tyvek and full face respirators.

yeah, we lived next door to a hoarder many years ago. and i remember when they cleaned that house out. full tyvek, respirators, the works. and then, unfortunately, when they tore that house down, all the mice/rats moved over into our garage. thankfully no further than the separate garage. landlord had to bring in exterminators for them.
