that's a great take on them.
mine's an '11 x5m, twin turbo v8, torque to spare through the whole rev range, and i use it all, all the time. mine hasn't been out of sport mode since the initial test drive, so it just pulls itself into gas stations any time we are passing by one. don't care, love it, it's a land yacht for sure.

What are the repair bills like on the X5M? That would be one bad ass family ride..
Horror stories about used german cars have scared me off - but hell, you've got 3 of them! Maybe you need to have 3 to make sure one is always running
Re: Modern Cars Do Nothing Leave Me Cold
bought the x5m from a relative of my wife's family who owns a dealership. it came with a 3-year zurich powertrain warranty, 'cause an engine or trans replacement would put me upside down instantly. so i am doing my best to grenade the engine and get a new one so i can drive this thing until it rusts out, but if i'm not successful in a few years i'll re-evaluate keeping it and extending the aftermarket warranty or dumping it so i can sleep better at night.
have a good local indy who does germans and is reasonable. they have all been pretty trouble free, but i do spend on proactive maintenance, and i have a stash account, cause when things go wrong it gets expensive rather quickly.
we keep my wife in a new truck lease for warranty and peace of mind, but she drives a lot for work while i work at home and have had no commute. the audi is a 2002 and just recently turned over 50k miles.

thanks, yeah the red sled's a sentimental favorite. it's crazy to keep it, but it's a labor of love, and it still excites me. every drive is an event.
