The Dive Watch Connection

I've been kicking around a new car purchase for over a year; "torn" between the Kia Telluride and Hyundai Palisade...
with the Palisade always ahead.

Joined two forums and a FB group for each and have been keeping up with owners' feedback.

I planned to wait at least three or four more months more before purchasing one of the two vehicles.

Meanwhile, my '03 Suburban continues to have me worried about some impending catastrophe. A few weeks ago I shifted from 2-wheel drive to 4-wheel drive high and the truck wouldn't move. Shifted back to 2-wheel drive without issue.

So "Time Has Come Today".

I leased a white SE AWD Palisade (2nd row bench); chose the Palisade because I was more impressed with the Hyundai interior.

And I decided I could tolerate that enormous grille.






I've never owned a white vehicle and never leased anything.

Figured as long as I'm leasing, and not buying, I can give white a try.


Feels good to have finally made a decision.

I tested drove this model a few weeks ago. If I need an 8 passenger suv this would be the one I would pick. Congrats on it.

I decided on the base SE, too many "bugs" in the various safety and convenience systems in the higher trim models.

However, I included in the lease installation of heat in the front seats (going back next week).



Some things are not worth doing without.

I like it and the grill.... kind of Yukon like imo.

My Yukon is white, and even when dirty it doesn't look as bad as you'd think.

White is the best non-silver color for looking clean.

Not sure how they do it, but they are making the seats on mine into heated seats.

Salesman said they do it fairly often and the controls will not look like an aftermarket install.

Most everything is modular these days, so it’s a fairly easy upgrade.

We can only import cars that are either 25 years old and exempt from DOT and EPA regs, or if it’s very similar to other models that are already manufactured in the U.S., there's the 'substantially similar clause' to bring in Canadian models of those cars. Not sure if the Veloster's speedometer reads kilometers, but things like that have to be converted to one that reads miles, and your registered importer might also be required to make headlight modifications, reflectors, engine, and emission modifications before it's eligible.

Yeah, I read up a little bit on the process after I made the post.

I guess it might make sense on a very expensive car, but on a relatively affordable car the cost to import and potentially modify might be too much.

FWIW, I recently drove my father's Jeep Grand Cherokee with all those heated options (including steering wheel) and it was nice. My old Tacoma has none of those niceties, but I do know you can add heated seats fairly easily as an aftermarket item.

People have brought in cars, usually high end exotics, but the three issues are taxes, emissions certification, and warranty. The first two aren't so bad but the USA branch of a company won't honor the Canadian market car's warranty. That's a pretty big bummer.

seems a beautiful SUV IMO....I also just saw the first Genesis SUV was unveiled, also looks great! WHen my Volvo XC60 lease ends i look forward to looking for the next...Likely same cast of characters as last time:

Alfa makes a nice car. I'd never buy a Genesis if they are sold and serviced by a Hyundai dealer (as they are in Ithaca).

i think they are separate but not......I hear hyundai/genesis have good quality though....I wanted the Alfa last time, went to lease one and got sidetracked by the Volvo....

My local dealer is a Hyundai/Subaru/Genesis dealer and it's about the quality of a shit used car lot. Hopefully Genesis is better represented in Chicagoland. If not, they will be out of business in five years.
