Maybe it’s because I live in SoCal, but I’ve never heard mention that fifth Subaru purchaser group. All I’ve ever heard is praise for the brand.
well the 90's and early 2000's were horrible for subabru. they had headgasket issues for 10 year son most of their models. unfortunately i owned a few of them that did the same thing. so i think the rebranding was to try and gather up more steam to fix a car that could be better than it currently was.
I’ve owned nothing but Subaru Foresters from 2006. Never had a single issue. Best cars I’ve ever owned, bar none. I haven’t seen or heard of any issues.

Head gaskets are generally a PITA but most engines you can pull the head right off the engine. The boxer jammed between the frame rails makes the job much much harder.

That’s not a bad thing though. You’d be pulling it already to fix the spun rod bearings and shattered #4 piston.

that was an issue i think on the boosted models. mine were all natural aspirated. the oil line was huge restriction on the boosted ones. kind of like a bong with too many filters.

We are way off topic on a Bronco thread.... but I think oil consumption is an issue in most boxer engine cars due to the gasket/joint being vertical. This is well known in the Porsche community and just accepted... Porsche even lists 1.6 qts of oil "consumption" per 625 miles as within spec on the 996. For the 997 they improved to 1 qt per 625 miles.

I've owned Honda's, Acura's, VW's and BMW's all with vertical/inline engines and I have never had to add oil to any of them at 8-10k service intervals.

There is a really good podcast called "Bring Back Bronco" that you all should check out. I think there was just 7 or so episodes and they dedicated an episode to each Bronco "era". They did one on the OJ impact on the Bronco legacy and it was extremely interesting.

Someone around the corner has a white Bronco Sport. I wasn't expecting it to look so small, but I guess it is a micro Ute.

Agreed. My neighbor’s wife just got one. It is a cute little UTE, but about the same size as an Escape.
