That’s good to hear. Yep definitely looking forward to test driving. MT is so rare nowadays, kudos to Ford to make one. Better not be MT is only on 4 cylinder models with vinyl seats
Never have had a problem with 3 Wranglers over the last 10 years.
Your experience is uncommon. I had 2 and both were disasters.
The new ones are awful. Every person I know with a new one has had major issues.
Ha. The JL is supposedly more reliable than the JK it replaced. I ended up with a heavily modified 4Runner for the same reason. I don't have time to deal with issues in a new vehicle. If the Bronco turns out to be reliable, I will be replacing my wife's 4Runner with it in a yr or two.

It is supposed to be a 7MT - 7th gear for "crawler" mode. It sounds absolutely bad ass.Panerai7 wrote: ↑Tue Jul 07, 2020 1:25 pm4Runner is bullet proof no comparison with FCA, good movestreetracer101 wrote: ↑Tue Jul 07, 2020 1:18 pmHa. Me neither, I don't have time and they don't even give you a free loaner. There were people who were without their cars (jeeps) for a 1-2-3 months at a time, no thanks.
Ford's quality seems to be decent so if they make 6MT V6 I'll have to look at it really hard.
That's right 7 for the crawl. Yeah as long as it's not a stripper MT V6 I'd be very interestedstreetracer101 wrote: ↑Tue Jul 07, 2020 1:41 pmIt is supposed to be a 7MT - 7th gear for "crawler" mode. I dont think I am in the minority. Dont know anyone with issues - and I know many.
We test drove a 2020 Rubicon with the 4cyl engine. It was noisy and the turbo lag was awful. I didn't want the Pentastar engine - too inefficient and dated. I still love the look of a lifted JLUR, but I'd prefer a Ford product to any day.tmw wrote: ↑Tue Jul 07, 2020 1:47 pmI dont think I am in the minority. Dont know anyone with issues - and I know many.
I currently have a 2011 and a 2019. Also a 2008. All three Rubicons.
No issues whatsoever. And I have the new power top in the 2019.
Everyone has their own unique experiences.
I had a 4 runner when the 4runners where trucks in the early 1990s. Those things were great. Replaced first clutch at 125K miles. But they are boring now.
Its just my observation and my experience, and those of my friends - I know a ton of them. I have had no issues, and would have no hesitation to buy another and recommend another.streetracer101 wrote: ↑Tue Jul 07, 2020 2:00 pmWe test drove a 2020 Rubicon with the 4cyl engine. A counter to your point on reliability- why are there so many JL's for sale that are less than a yr old? Surely it isn't because all the owners didn't realize they were buying a loud, unstable off-roader. I've spotted several lemon buy backs on eBay/Autotrader in my searches, so clearly there's something going on.
My GMC Sierra has been a mess too. That's why I'm considering a Ram. I won't buy a Ford truck made in aluminum. It limits parts and body shops in my area too much.tmw wrote: ↑Tue Jul 07, 2020 2:26 pmIts just my observation and my experience, and those of my friends - I know a ton of them. I even have a lifetime warranty on my 2011. Never even been used.
I have had many brands in my lifetime of car purchases.....we tend to focus in my family on toyota and jeep. The 2019s and beyond are major upgrades from the 2018 and earlier JLs. Significantly improved comfort, the power sky top is fantastic.
If you still want the open frame no roof experience, jeep is still by far the best. Yes they are loud (the rubicon tires are just big ass treads for stock) but saharas and others are quieter with highway tires. My ford experience has been average.
Its interesting to watch - bronco is targeting directly Jeep. They have even come out and said it directly. And jeeps sell a ton.
I dont mind the Pentastar engine, yea it drinks gas, but performance wise, no issues whatsoever (except the shut off when stopped which I disable).
Cars - buy what you like. If I had issues (like my nissan xterra which was a freaking mess) - I left the brand. My GMC truck was also a mess, with tons of service issues (check out power steering rack replacements), and also done with them.
I know 2 people that have flipped JLs on the highway, but those crash tests are then scarier.bedlam wrote: ↑Tue Jul 07, 2020 4:36 pmThey can't sell Jeeps in Oz because of its reputation for poor reliability.
The bigger issue with the Wrangler is it fails front corner impact tests (reproducing the most common accident). The Wrangler is the only one that rolled in the test - and it did it every time. Just flat out dangerous.
I linked to the Youtube video of the tests on the 4X4 forum on Reddit and the mods deleted my post.
my little brother's 2013 Rubicon finally got paid off by jeep for lemon law. he bought it new in 2013 and has had (2) new cylinder heads, multiple oil pressure switches, 3 water pumps and a leaking hard top since new. he started the lawsuit 3 years ago and finally won. they paid him exactly what he bought it for. it has spent almost 2 years total at the dealer for warranty work.streetracer101 wrote: ↑Tue Jul 07, 2020 7:11 pmMy GMC Sierra has been a mess too. As for a top down off-roader, Jeep is the only game in town, so it makes a solid target given the popularity of SUVs. I recently read that trucks and SUVs now make up 70% of new car sales on the US. The 4Runner and Wrangler are the two most popular models of their respective brands, so it makes sense for Ford to target them.
That’s horrible but sadly not surprising with a Jeep. I read how they fall apart on the way from the dealership. There’s this blind fanboism worse than with Apple where every problem on those forums are met with “it’s a Jeep thing you just don’t get it”toxicavenger wrote: ↑Tue Jul 07, 2020 8:03 pmmy little brother's 2013 Rubicon finally got paid off by jeep for lemon law. he bought it new in 2013 and has had (2) new cylinder heads, multiple oil pressure switches, 3 water pumps and a leaking hard top since new. he started the lawsuit 3 years ago and finally won. they paid him exactly what he bought it for. it has spent almost 2 years total at the dealer for warranty work.streetracer101 wrote: ↑Tue Jul 07, 2020 7:11 pmMy GMC Sierra has been a mess too. funny he is thinking about the new Jeep truck![]()
my brother has this "ism". growing up we owned a lot of jeeps. he continued it into his 40's. i was thinking this rubicon would he his last. but i am not sure.
There is always going to be good stories. Always going to be bad stories. It’s with watches, cars, etc. We all have the same debates here with watches (how many seiko movement threads have there been where some have great success, others lousy).toxicavenger wrote: ↑Tue Jul 07, 2020 9:01 pmmy brother has this "ism". growing up we owned a lot of jeeps. he continued it into his 40's. i was thinking this rubicon would he his last. but i am not sure.
