Long Boards
Long Boards
My wife discovered that her company reimburses for purchases of fitness equipment, so we bought a long board (Sector 9 Maverick Crag 44"). Tons of fun! I didn't skate in my youth, but I've always been good on ice skates and skis. Tons of fun, and so far, no injuries.

Re: Long Boards
Very fun! My company's benefits plan does something similar.
If you get into skating, you might consider looking into Carver boards (https://carverskateboards.com/). They offer a unique truck system that allows you to "pump" the skateboard like you would a surfboard to build momentum on flat surfaces. My local surfboard shop carries them and you can actually skate them around the store without kicking at all.
I'm thinking about putting an electric motor on my longboard and rigging up a bluetooth throttle control so I can skate to the beach in full "lazy mode". Not sure how legal it'll be....

Very cool.
My nephew owns Uncle Funkys Boards in NYC.
Years ago, he was part of a group that traveled to Japan to promote long boards; he had a blast.

My board...
Late 80`s Variflex factory board.
Original plastic grind rails and tip and toe guards.
Been riding this one for many years.
Longer and wider than a standard skateboard, but shorter and more nimble than a long board.

Re: Long Boards
Had my first fall yesterday. There's a lot of construction going on around where I live, and I skated over some crushed stone scattered on the pavement. The board stopped, and I kept going. Only minor damage to my body, but had I been wearing a watch, it would have been smashed.
I think I need to buy a G-Shock now.

Yeah, I definitely see the appeal of electric boards. Carving is fun, but pushing gets old.
