I have an electric skateboard that seems to have a similar concept. There is a battery pack under the deck, a small motor in the truck, and a small Bluetooth controller you hold in your hand. It’ll go about 6 miles on a charge and rolls at a pretty decent clip. It’s actually pretty fun to buzz around the neighborhood on it.

Just a little Google research suggests that electric hydrofoil surfboard is a $5k - $10K toy. Too rich for my blood. I'll stick to my regular old surfboard.

They are a lot of fun to use and I like getting the some funny looks from strangers as I roll up a hill with zero pushing and sipping on a cup of coffee. The Bluetooth throttle control is pretty small and pretty much unnoticeable when held in your hand.

You can coast. With zero throttle it will free wheel. It also has reverse, so going down a steep hill you can use some gentle reverse to control your speed.

You can kick it too, if you'd like, just like a regular skateboard if you run out of battery.

That thing has a pretty good draft compared to its length. Next thing you’ll start seeing those motors on sailboat skegs.

My challenges are more in dealing with narrow channels and people who have no clue paddling around in kayaks and SUPs.

I’m not hating on kayaks or SUPs (I own both), but we have a rental business near my marina and I’ve seen folks paddle right in front of a boat that is traveling in a very narrow channel with no ability to maneuver. Maybe they have been instructed on the “rules of the road” by the rental staff, but most seem to have limited ability to adhere to them.

Add to that we just got one of those “Freedom Boat Clubs” up the river putting a lot of novice boaters on the water and you’ve got the equivalent of a high school parking lot outside my dock.

I’m kinda shocked there hasn’t been a boat versus kayak or SUP accident yet. There have been many close calls and if God forbid it happens, the results would not be pretty.
