Round #2: Lume Showdown (MM > U1)
I placed both watches (plus a Panerai) under this LED light for 2 minutes.
Then, I snapped these pictures a few minutes later (@ ~5minutes).

The Sinn does last all night though, and the dial is also extremely easy to read. The MM is gonna win this one, but it doesn't really matter. The U1 is "good enough".
I'll take some more pics after some time passes...

The U1 totally got destroyed but what stood out to me was the minute hand on the MM? Looks like bad lume application or something.

They are both helpless little girls in that category. The Seiko with its "hard licks" crystal, and the Sinn with it's finicky, easy to scratch external AR will disqualify them both from the big leagues.

Yep, something like that.
Stay tuned. It's gonna be a long bout of the heavyweights...

It looks like the Panerai is the real winner there (in before "Seiko has the best lume evar!" comment).
I think the jury is still out on what the brightest lume is. I did some work in a photolab using some fancy cameras to measure luminosity on LEDs on instrument panels. It would be interesting to do an experiment to measure which lume is actually the brightest using a calibrated camera instead of just using someone's eyesight and opinion.

Alright, I'm calling it. At 1hr, I can't see the Sinn hands with NON dark-adjusted eyesight.
Seiko 2 -- Sinn 0
P.S. I took the Seiko into the bathroom with an SMP 2254 yesterday, while at the Omega AD's. The SMP blows the Seiko out of the water. There is just too much expansive lume real estate on those big sword hands and markers.

This is getting interesting. I like the U1, but love the MM. I have been at the beach all day, the sun was strong earlier so the MM is charged up and ready to light up the night.

PAM's have great lume across all the product line, especially on the divers. That U1 is disappointing, I am a sucks for good lume.jimyritz wrote:Interesting...That PAM seemed to be holding its own...
Better to regret something you have done, than something you haven't done...

That PAM lume is amazing.
You can't deny Seiko lume either, though.

Re: Round #2: Lume Showdown (MM > U1)
I'm following this with interest because i want both a U1 and MM. The outer AR coating has put the U1 a little in the background for me lately but i do like watches that look a bit different from all others and no one can deny the U1 has a look all of its own, some think its odd looking some love it. The MM is quite new to my "want" list but its appears to be a cracking watch. If only money were no object .
