Citizen Satellite Wave F100

Post by jaw » Fri Mar 27, 2015 8:55 pm

Hey there,

Got some questions on this today in WFTRUW. Here's a repost from Watchlords.

====================================

I bought this watch first for the technology, followed by extremely beveled case angels, thinness (13mm), and airy hollow pushers. In short it's a cool watch that is probably larger than it should be at 46mm - but super light. Syncs with GPS in 3-4 secs as advertised (once signal OK is acquired). The watch can easily be dressed up or down and will likely replace my traveling G-Shock for auto time sync capability.

The user is required to select the desired time zone and daylight savings on/off. All else is set automatically. A handy (but limited) light/charge meter measures the charge worthiness of available light between 0(12:00) and 6, but is not realtime. You get a single measurement per push, move your wrist to different illumination and the previous reading remains until you let it reset and push again. Power reserve status is also displayed in the process.

Titanium is more gunmetal than silver in color and prone to skin oil discoloration (that wipes off) and scratches "Duratec Band Material" be damned. Desk diver scratches below (inflicted within a matter of minutes), are mine not the seller's. Lume is scarcely visible applied only to the very tip of each hand and too similar in size and shape to tell the difference between them.

Regardless of shortcomings I like it and will keep it. Purchased preloved from someone that just wanted to check out the tech - they got it from Japan.

Specs
http://www.betterstartsnow.com/en/f100/ ... ormations/
  • Silver Case made with Titanium + DLC (Diamond Like Carbon)
  • Titanium Duratec Band Material
  • Black Dial Color
  • Sapphire with Anti-Reflective Coating
  • world’s first Light Level Indicator
  • 100 meter Water Resistance
  • 45.4mm diameter / 12.5mm thickness
  • 108 g weight
  • Calibre F100 Eco-Drive
  • Accuracy of ± 5 Seconds per a Month
  • Satellite Timekeeping System (Reception Area: Worldwide)
  • World Time 27 local, 40 time zone
  • Markers and Hands Luminous Painted
  • Light-Level Indicator
  • Power Reserve Indicator
  • Perpetual Calendar
Crown: Rather smooth/slippery but more than adequate for what little turning you need to do. Which is setting the time zone. Also more of an electronic crown with almost no tension, where you feel small clicks as it turns. Like the Citizen Skyhawk.

Letters: Cities appear to be on the chapter ring due to very close proximity but they are printed on the crystal like NO/RX/OK.

Been lusting for this watch since I read about it. Totally dig it

I'm thinking about purchasing an Attesa JDM model soon. It also has the Duratec DLC coating. What's your experience been so far as to its durability? First I ever heard about Ti DLC was reading about the F100

The F100 does not have DLC. At least not as far as I can tell. I have not realized the "unique surface-hardening technology" that they promote for this watch. In my experience, it is very prone to desk diver scratching. Luckily they tend to occur only on the clasp and nearby links (depending on how your wear it), that only the owner would be aware of.

Gotcha

Well per the specs they call it DLC although it's more like gun metal from the looks of it.

How "light" is the Ti? I tend to shy away from Ti watches because of how light they feel; almost cheap to me.

Does this piece feel more substantial wrist compared to say the Pelagos?

We employ a proprietary titanium material treated with unique surface-hardening technology for the case and band. The lightness and resistance to scratching of our titanium means you will enjoy long wearing comfort, plus lasting beauty and luster.
1. Again, I'm not experiencing the value proposition above, regardless of what they call it. Yes, darker gunmetal in color, which I prefer.
2. Feather light and comfortable. I used to think "cheap" with all watches Ti too. After owning a couple good ones, not anymore.
3. Only tried the Pelagos at the AD once. So...gonna say No. The F100 is lighter mainly due to less Ti and quartz.

That's good looking. Doesn't seem overly thick for its size. Nice.

Never liked the angled Beep-Boop robot designs. I do like the dial, slimness and tech. Very close to a great travel watch. I like GMT and travellers to draw less attention and not to look too "valuable."
