Seiko Giugiaro “Rider’s Chronograph”

Post by Joeprez » Sun Nov 22, 2020 3:58 pm

Post from Instagram related to this watch:

After falling in love with motorcycles again, it was just a matter of time for me to get a “motorcycle inspired” watch. And thanks to @misterenthusiast instagram page, I remembered that the awesome Giorgetto Giugiaro designed the Rider’s Chronograph back in the 1980’s. Cool thing about this one: Japan only, limited to 1,000 or 1,500 pieces (depending on the color), but you can get one on eBay for between $190-$300 depending on the color you want. The black and green model goes great with my Svartpilen and gloves. Pretty cool to have a watch designed by the same person who designed the BMW M1, Ferrari 250GT Berlinetta SWB Speciale, Iso Grifo, DeTomaso Mangusta and the DeLorean, among others. Check out Giugiaro’s design firm: Italdesign.

The dial is tilted 15 degrees, so it can be easily read while gripping a handlebar. More clever still, the watch face is also canted 5 degrees on its Y axis, more in line the rider’s eye. Mine is a limited edition of 1,000 and is number 37 which is a special number for me. Its a keeper Image

So, is it all steel, or a combination of plastic and steel?

Very cool! Wasn’t the ‘Ripley’ watch similar?

Yeap, slim bracelet too. I’ve been close to pulling the trigger on that one in the past, but not sure I would wear it that much, even though I like how it looks.
