Sewing machines gone bad

I remember back when I was a young lad back at school. We had sewing practise as a part of school and I wasn`t paying attention to what I was doing (that`s new..) and the needle pierced my thumb just below the nail. Went right thrue the sucker just missing the bone and screeched to a halt. I remember my teachers face, it was all like , we managed to get the needle out and no real damage was done other than a punctured and sore thumb.
So what`s your stories on sewing machines gone bad?

ouch! i stapled the fleshy part between my thumb and index finger, but thats about it. i use thimbles alot, even on the machine. Better be safe than sorry!

as far as horror stories go, remember what happened to Jonah (aka EXTREMESEWER44) when he used a wheelback? i talked about it in this thread

There was that one time when I was using Chinese made Boschett needles.....Couldn't even stitch through 100count Egyptian cotton.

Lesson learned on that one.

speaking of cheap needles, I had one I thought was the proper size for some heavy denim I was working with. I thought wrong. That sucker snapped and sent shards of metal soaring thru the air. Several pieces went in my eye. I was at the eye doctor for a few hours as they carefully removed tiny pieces of metal from my eye. Granted, i don't go so far as to wear eye protection, but I do take my contacts out and wear my glasses just to be safe. At least I got back on the horse.
