Looking for my first Sub - thoughts on this 1680

Post by grooveholmes » Tue Oct 29, 2024 12:28 pm

Hello, I am looking for my first Rolex and have decided on a Sub. I am partial to the vintage vibe and am considering a 1680 or 16800. Particularly, I am interested in a 1974 1680 (my birth year), I would use it as a daily watch around the office (no sports or water activities). What are you thoughts on the watch below? It will be a relatively big purchase and I don't have as much knowledge/experience as most on this forum. Thanks in advance...

I haven't examined that particular watch, but I believe that place is a glorified pawn shop.

You should buy from a trustworthy dealer, such as:
Tropicalwatch.com
Wind Vintage
Lunar Oyster
Analog Shift
Menta Watches

^^^^ What he said ^^^^

I’ve been told by wise people to buy the seller, not the watch.

I’ll add MVV to that list, but Tropicalwatch.com is my pick.

You might try asking on the Rolex Forum too. That’s kind of their thing.

BTW, who are you?

Thanks for the good advice. I will look into the sources suggested.

Sorry for the lack of introduction. My name is Mike from GA. I am just getting into the watch world, but excited to learn more.

Thanks again for the advice. Purchased a 1984 16800 from Tropical Watch this morning. Super smooth transaction!

When you’re ready for your first “other kind of sub” I definitely recommend Terry.
