DSSD owner’s question / bezel issue

Post by TIMUR » Mon Apr 13, 2020 2:08 pm

Hi folks
Just had my DSSD serviced by Rolex. Noticed that the bezel sits higher then the crystal where they meet. Not much, maybe 0.5mm. But very noticeable. Pretty sure it was flush/even before.

If you have a DSSD, Can you confirm please? Thanks much

Hey, Tim - I had the JC version last year and here are a few shots showing the crystal slightly raised above the bezel - definitely not the bezel higher than the crystal

I’ve owned a couple. Doesn’t look like they fully seated it when reassembling.

I’ve heard bad thing about Dallas too, but much less than NY. The school in PA is better, but they only get overflow jobs.

Have you tried squeezing down the bezel, maybe it’ll snap into place?

Can you take a super up close picture of the interface between the bezel and your case? Basically closer up version of your first picture.

I can’t tell if it’s dirt or what, but if I zoom in, it almost looks like the bezel edge gouged your case and left metal shavings.

Nah. Just dirt.

Bezel feels/looks perfect. Somehow the glass is lower then before. I wonder if the back is not screwed in the whole way...

Mine is the older 116660 that has never been serviced for comparison.

The gap between bezel and case does appear to be a touch off/large.

I’ve hear the best reviews regarding service from Litiz, PA.

Yeah, that last flat shouldn’t be there, I.e. back case teeth, 1st bevel, and “last flat”.

That does suck, cause it also calls into question if they pressure tested it. And if they did, what affects that has on the case/case back fit since it wasn’t fully tightened.

IMO, if you can get it to Litiz, that would be a good thing.

I wonder how it passed pressure testing....

This would piss me off too.

That's very disappointing. I'm glad you isolated the problem. I'll the same question.. Does anyone take fucking pride in their work anymore??

My understanding about Lititz is that it partially depends on your AD and which RSC is in your region. For example, being in the DC area, most ADs in this area can request to send to PA. If you’re outside of the East Coast/Mid-Atlantic, you might get AD pushback.

With that said, I have no idea if you can contact them directly and cut the AD out. For me that would depend on if my watch was out of warranty or not.

Regarding if Lititz can service the DSSD, IMO as long as long as they can screw in the case back, I’d be happy with that, plus a pressure test to the highest they can go, even if it’s not to 3900m. My guess is that they won’t do that for you, i.e. let a watch leave that didn’t meet official specs, but it might be worth asking.

2nd to PA would be the Dallas RSC.

Update. All are closed until middle of May.
Good thing I don’t have any dives over 3000m scheduled before then
