Okay, theoretical question. Maybe a dumb one. I have a nice matte dial 16800 Sub that rarely, if ever, gets worn. I don't have the original bracelet, but it is now on a true one piece Bond NATO.
So, I've been considering maybe trying to trade it for a DSSD, which I know I'd wear often. Right now it's just a vague idea. I've let vintage Subs go in the past and have regreted doing so. If trends continue, the 16800 will probably keep rising in value. However, a large modern DSSD would be perfect for the rotation.
Opinions?

Re: Question - '82 Rolex 16800 Sub for DSSD?
I prefer to own what I like to wear, and not for the sake of collecting, so if you see your self wearing the DSSD more, I say go for it.
When you let vintage subs go in the past, why did you regret it? Did you miss wearing them, or purely regret it based on the rising value? There are options out there between a 16800 and a DSSD. Maybe one of the various versions of the modern Seadweller?

I was, and am resisting looking for one again. I would just sell it, so I’m exercising some self discipline and staying away.tmw wrote:I have been looking for a 16800....just sayin.

Well, I did miss wearing them, but I'd be lying if rising values didn't play into it. I sold an all original 1956 Sub 6536/1 with original bracelet for about $3K aproximitely fifteen years ago. These watches routinely sell for well over $40K now. I also sold a 5513 a few years later for a fraction of its current value. So yeah...

I think many of us have similar regrets, but I also agree it doesn’t make sense to hang on to something that you really don’t plan to wear.
