Whistleblower lawsuit involving major Chicago AD
Whistleblower lawsuit involving major Chicago AD
Allegedly the A.D. was turned in by an employee for selling Rolex and Patek direct to the grey market in a multi-layered scheme involving employee purchasing of the watches to resell back to the AD. Includes money laundering, tax evasion, racketeering, etc... Good stuff. Sales people were berated by management for selling Rolex sport watches to the their customers in lieu of to the gray market via the scheme.

This stuff is probably the norm at dealers, and these guys just got caught...

one can only hope some grey market sellers (and ADs selling to them) are puckering up. there's no reason rolex should be lining their pockets unintentionally.
Re: Whistleblower lawsuit involving major Chicago AD
Did I miss it or did they not name the AD?

Love it... we all inherently knew this was going on, now hopefully this will come to a head as others realize there's risk involved.

I went over to TRF expecting to see the place on fire but I saw barely a mention of this. The high volume profiteer sellers have that place on lock. It's a professional sales forum masquerading as an enthusiast forum. It's so blatant now.
Re: Whistleblower lawsuit involving major Chicago AD
Noticed that at least one thread had been locked on the topic. Kind of hard to justify this being a taboo topic when there's tons of others discussing pricing, bubbles, why buy "grey", etc...JP Chestnut wrote: ↑Tue Feb 16, 2021 8:34 amI went over to TRF expecting to see the place on fire but I saw barely a mention of this. It’s all the greys who keep it afloat.JP Chestnut wrote:I went over to TRF expecting to see the place on fire but I saw barely a mention of this. The high volume profiteer sellers have that place on lock. It's a professional sales forum masquerading as an enthusiast forum. It's so blatant now.

For sure. The mods/owner are definitely whoring out to the forum dealers. The crazy thing is that the forum peeps are too stupid to see it.hoppyjr wrote: ↑Tue Feb 16, 2021 11:04 amIt’s all the greys who keep it afloat.JP Chestnut wrote:I went over to TRF expecting to see the place on fire but I saw barely a mention of this. They monetize the forum on the back of “pledge membership”, so they definitely have incentive to keep the Rolex market booming.

Re: Whistleblower lawsuit involving major Chicago AD
It's a mess of Rolex's own making. They limited supply, drove up demand, which changed the grey market from discounters to profiteers. With all the demands they make of their ADs to spend 100's of thousands of $$ to remodel and then give them limited supply of watches to sell to the public, the grey market makes more sense.

I haven’t seen anything about rolex cutting production outside of covid disruptions.BacoNoir wrote: ↑Tue Feb 16, 2021 3:29 pmIt's a mess of Rolex's own making.
